I guess I am behind the times as I recently discovered the USMC is transitioning to 15-man squads.
https://www.marinecorpstimes.com/new...ture-infantry/ And for anyone looking for a place for Flash (and even Sci-Fi) a systems operator would be an ideal spot for them on a Joe team. I could easily see either one of them utilizing a small drone on the team (if you are running a modern version of the Joes that is). |

You ever wonder why Barbeque is a joe? I mean as time went on we got all sorts of weird Joes, but early on they were all Soldiers, Drivers, Doctors... and a fireman.
Now Im not saying Firemen arent important. But are they really important to a Spec Ops team?

Combat firemen can be very important when you're in a forward base and someone starts chucking mortar shells or short-range tactical missiles into your highly flammable ammo dumps, fuel stores and so on... Especially if your forward camp contains stuff like, say, XH-1 Dragonfly attack helos, Tomahawk medium lift transport helos, Sky Hawk VTOL attack craft or even AWE Striker jeeps, VAMPs, Maulers, Armadillos, etc....

Also firefighters would be good at HAZ-MAT handling, forcible entry, and probably EMT skills. I've thought about making a custom Barbecue with a Marauders contract ops body.

ok, fair enough. I always think of Joe as a small Spec Ops team, but you guys are right, its a big organisation.

Some of us place them as a unit responsible for weapons of mass destruction. In this case we usually do not include jets, tanks and artillery but instead modify certain characters for different roles (i.e, fighter pilots are ALO's or drone pilots, artillery soldiers are forward observers, etc). Depending on your take Joes such as Barbeque (and the other firefighters) and Joes such as Hardtop and Steam-Roller could be part of a US Air Force Red Horse-like unit (thank you Tyroc!)within the Joes: https://www.acc.af.mil/News/Article-...loyable-force/ This would fit in with the Joes being a multi-service independent unit within USSOCOM or even JSOC and having their own unit to assist with airfield repairs in remote and austere locations, etc. |

Wow, thanks for that link. RED HORSE would be a great character for the Joes.

I have always thought the Joes made the most sense as a spec ops team like "The Unit" with a small team and support staff using cutting edge weapons under the purview of an international oversight.
So Hawk is in charge, and one of the few Joes who's real name is known to more than just the team itself. ANyone else has a data wipe done on them so that pictures of them cant be traced back to any friends or family. They never use their real names after they join the joes, those are effectively wiped away. Becoming a Joe is a sacrifice. Rank and prior military service doesn't matter within the Joe system; There's Hawk, Then Duke, then Scarlet, Flint and Stalker. Anyone else may be a team leader for a given mission. There arent ranks so much. Ranks dont matter in the Joes. If you're there you're part of an already tight knit group and have given up everything that came before. Equipment is handled through shell companies and the like; sort of how Batman gets his gear. Weapons are a mix of person arms, experimental firearms and equipment and custom built gear. Support staff are private contractors, and while they see the Joes faces and know where they are when at a base, they are kept distanced from the actual team to make infiltration more difficult by outside forces. Anyway thats how I think of them.
