For some reason that makes me less frustrated at him than before. I used to feel like he was a usurper. Now he just seems like a new dude I haven't met properly.

Circling back to Airborne (Talltree). His file card states an SMS of "Helicopter Gunship Gunner". This would either mean he would have had to been trained as crew chief of a specific helicopter (Huey if he joined during the 70's or Blackhawk during the 80's) before reclassifying as an Infantryman. I would imagine he would have went to Airborne School while as an Infantryman instead of as a crew chief. I would think slots are limited to the classes and MOS's such as Infantry would have a higher priority. However reading his file card almost indicates he went straight to Airborne School shortly after joining the army (which would have meant enlisting in the 11B field).
Another thing on his file card is his weapons qualification of "Helicopter Hughes Chain Gun". The only reference I see in Hughes chain guns is the ones on the Apache helicopters. For him to operate or even be qualified on this gun would make him a warrant officer who attended flight school (and also late 70's/early 80's for an Apache). I found a video from the 60's on "Shotgun Riders" during the Vietnam War which shows the training for actual door gunners. Seems certain soldiers were trained just as a door gunner and was part of a helicopter crew which included the two pilots and an actual crew chief. The video showed two E-5's attending this school so obviously they were not fresh out of basic. Not sure if this was an actual MOS or a skill identifier. This sounds closest to what Airborne's file card indicates (minus the chain gun qualification). So one can interpret Airborne as having served in the Vietnam War as an airborne infantryman and then goes on to train as a door gunner. His qualification on the M60 would also support this. Otherwise a more modern take on Airborne is a crew chief reclassing to infantry. |

Here is my Joe Armor (Usually led by Gen Flagg III)
Steeler - MOBAT Thunderwing -MOBAT Tollbooth - Bridgelayer Cover-Girl - Wolverine Hotseat - Raider Heavy-Metal - Mauler Switch Gears - Grizzly Knockdown - Sky Sweeper Steam Roller - MMC The problem then is the Equalizer and the Brawler have no drivers, not to mention the Half Dozen Armadillos that round out the Troop. I might have a few Battle Bunkers to round out the Unit. Quote:

I was thinking of PMing you thread regulars this as it's not really a filecard-related question, but figured that it would probably be a lot more practical to cut down on PM spam and just present the question here.
What do you guys consider to be the definitive GI Joe headquarters? I've listed the relevant choices below:
My personal preference is Pit v3 since it was GI Joe's headquarters during what I consider to be the peak of the property (the mid-to-late 1980s) and so it's the one that most readily comes to mind when I think of "The Pit," but I'm not sure if that opinion is shared by a majority of fans who grew up with the property. The Pentagon - Washington D.C. Fort Wadsworth/The PIT I - Staten Island, New York Governors Island - New York Fort Dix/McGuire AF Base - New Jersey Wright Patterson AF Base - Dayton, Ohio The PIT III - Utah (Main Air Base and Launch Base for Defiant/Crusader) The PIT IV - Nevada (Main R&D Base) The PIT V - Arizona The Rock - Wyoming Boulder Hill - Nevada Adventure Team Headquarters - High Sierra's, California Power Station Alpha - Fort Lewis, Washington Command Center* - Various Outpost Defender* Check Point* Watch Tower* Bivouac - Various Forward Observer - Various U.S.S. Jane U.S.S. Terrapin U.S.S. Sea Titan U.S.S. Flagg Tactical Battle Platform - Various |

Pretty much just have Maulers and HAVOC Mk II as my Armour. The RHINO, ROCC Warthog and APC are more mission specific for me.
