Hawk's Intelligence Profile was published in 1988 after Marvel UK cancelled Action Force as a weekly title and launched Action Force Monthly with UK original material only and the US reprints were placed into the UK weekly Transformers comic. Hawk's IP stating he's American is probably for 2 reasons: 1. the comics to that point treated him as American because he had almost exclusively (if not exclusively) appeared in US reprint material in AF weekly. His v2 figure arrived in the UK in 1988, so he didn't appear in UK original material until then. UK original stories tended to focus on those characters actually available in stores at that time: Flint, Jaye, Footloose, Airtight, Shipwreck, Dusty, Alpine, Snake Eyes, Frostbite, Heavy Metal, Crankcase, Ace, Wild Bill. Gung Ho appeared out of necessity in a story to explain his injuries in the US reprints after Storm Shadow wounded him in a story they skipped reprinting. Scarlett appeared ... well, I dunno why, but I guess to also help tie together UK/US stories. The #2 reason why Hawk was listed as American would be that AFM was sold in the US as "GI Joe European Missions". Although how much was changed other than the cover title, I don't know.

On the point of Delta VS Joes, my Combined Universe fic has both existing and the idea is that GI Joe was formed solely to hunt Cobra. After the team was reformed in 1995 (the Combined Verse has them shut down in 1994, as it's based on comics continuity) they're retasked to deal with Cobra, the Red Shadows, the Coil and latterly Skull Squad and the Black Dragons.

On Hawk's nationality, it surprised me that the Action Force file card had him as British, I didn't recall that. The Action Force comics always portrayed him as American. Good point about them focusing on the available figures in the UK stories. Some characters got more stories than Hama gave them in the Joe comics. Destro also got a lot of time in the UK comic as well as the main Cobra threat. |

Wanted to get your opinions on an idea I had today.
What if the Joe’s had their own Cyclone-class patrol ship? Instead of an aircraft carrier. According to wiki it’s crew is 4 officers, 24 enlisted. I was playing with the idea that they (the Joes) operate one with just a crew of 12. Then the other 16 personnel are the naval Ops team. So for boat crew: - Keel-Haul as commanding officer (I was thinking of his rank going down to captain) - Cutter as his XO - Shipwreck as Chief - Mariner as a Boatswains Mate - Topside as Master-at-arms / Cryptologic Technican - then 7 Greenshirts to fill rest of crew Assault team: - Torpedo as team commander - Wet-Down as Assistant officer in charge - Tracker as Platoon Chief - Wet-Suit as Special warfare operator - Harpoon as Special warfare operator - Night Fox as Special warfare operator - 2 Greenshirts - Stingray as special warfare technician (I have link Talbot as a warrant officer that was apart of United States Navy Marine Mammal Program) - Deep Six as diver - Depthcharge as EOD - Periscope as Cryptologic Technician (he’s a unused concept that I saw on a Netflix show) - 4 Greenshirts Greenshirts are placeholders for any future Joes that would fit here. Ok. Well appreciate you all letting me rant about a idea I got while watching the office at work. |

Anyway, you could use; Sea Legs - Sailor (IDW GIJ vs Transformers) Sparky - Radar / Sonar Operator (IDW v1 # 20) Tuna - Helmsman (IDW v1 # 20) |

Awesome, thanks Ty. I haven’t read any of the IDW comics, so any characters introduced there are new to me.
Hell, I’m still trying to decide if I want to use the recruits that were in training with lightfoot, repeator & budo, lol |

Did you just pick up one of those Soldier Force "Hurricane" Battleships which pretty much looks just like the Cyclone class? Nice catch on those two random characters Sparky and Tuna. They are on like one panel each. Definitely fitting crew for any large ship. It's always tough to decide what to do with Keel Haul.

I was watching the office, the episode was booze cruise and the captain mentioned he commanded a cyclone-class patrol ship. Not knowing much about it, I looked it up on wiki and when I saw it’s used to support special operations. I liked it had a small crew then just started toying around with the Joes having one. Also that the coast guard were loaned a few, it made sense for cutter to be included. Lol.

I know, I've had him pegged as one of the Deputy Commanders for years but apart from the Flagg and its crew, he didn't command much of anything cannon wise. I think Admiral Ledger was more of a presence than him.
I have him earmarked as my Mobility Squadron Commander. He's in charge of all Aviation and Maritime Combat Support assets (Fixed Wing, Rotary, Surface & Subsurface assets and their crews) that will deliver Joes to where they need to go. It's basically a mesh of Delta's Aviation Squadron and DEVGRU's alleged Gray (Boat) Squadron. I'm keeping the Joe's size and footprint down by having the Joes have very few actual air frames and boats. Almost all planes, copters, boats etc will be on loan or lease via Memorandums of Understanding so they won't need too many support positions. For example, all the Special Boat Operators (SBO's) will be graduates of the SWCC Master Mariner program. Small teams of 8-12 that attach to each Sabre Squadron. They can operate any Joe vessel in their limited fleet or operate any leased or bought vessel depending on mission. This harkens back to the old OSS / SOE during WWII where Special Boat Operators were seasoned mariners who could operate anything depending on the mission and area. I found this quote from an old Vietnam era boat guy lamenting how the Special Boat Teams operate these days; "SWCCs should have the capability of a Rapid Deployable Force, with all its gear portable taking no boats. Once in an A.O. The SWCC Detachment would use Host Nation Boats be they Naval Patrol Craft or Local Indigenous Craft....and That being whatever boat can support SEALs on a waterborne mission. Be It a Arab Dhow, a Chinese Junk, a Fishing Boat..a Go Fast Boat, a Sail Boat, a Water Taxi!! or Oil Platform Support Boats. Tug Boats, Yachts.... the list is endless" Kind of similar to Special Missions # 1 where Cutter and Deep Six were undercover operating a civilian boat. |
