Nowadays, they still go through the patrol commander's course as part of the Reinforcement cycle (equivalent of OTC / Green Team) but its expected of Officers to lead, coordinate, plan and supervise rather than going out on ops which is left for the enlisted guys to do. As a Major, Bludd would have been a Squadron Commander, Captains generally command troops. As for the French Foreign Legion, I don't think he would have been an officer. Vietnam era I think all FFL Officers were French unless one rose through the ranks (at least 5-10 years of service). Modern day, enlisted have to have served at least 3 years before officer training. |

I could see Bludd serve his SAS tour with distinction but once Australia was out of the war, he'd want to put his services to good use. Goes FFL, and sees some messed up things in Africa. Not being an officer might be what passes him off. Imagine 10 years in SAS, then going FFL, and realizing you are smarter than everyone there? This might be when he runs into the twins maybe. Maybe even Voltar. Where is Voltar from anyway? I could see him as Portuguese.

Can confirm, SASR Officers do not get reduced in rank. In the Vietnam era SASR officers were trained and utillized as full patrol commanders.
Nowadays, they still go through the patrol commander's course as part of the Reinforcement cycle (equivalent of OTC / Green Team) but its expected of Officers to lead, coordinate, plan and supervise rather than going out on ops which is left for the enlisted guys to do. Vietnam era I think all FFL Officers were French unless one rose through the ranks (at least 5-10 years of service). Modern day, enlisted have to have served at least 3 years before officer training. Another thing to consider is when he sustained his eye injury. I imagine it would not have been during his time in the SAS as I do not think the FFL would have accepted him for service. So either it would have been during his FFL service and he then gets discharged or sometime during his mercenary days. The character has a lot going so trying to cohesively plot all he has done into fanfics is somewhat challenging. Here is what we have: 1. Joins SAS either as an enlisted and spends just a small amount of time there or joins as an officer and spends several years there in order to achieve the rank of Major. Fights in the Vietnam War. 2. Then joins the FFL as an enlisted and spends several years there in order to become a Major (not an officer rank) or joins as an enlisted (even though he was an officer in the SAS) and spends not as many years there. 3. Partakes in the Libyan-Chad while in the FFL. Wikipedia shows French involvement during the years 1969-72, 78-79 and 83-87. Obviously he was out of the FFL during the 83-87 time period. I imagine him going in 69-72 time period instead of the 78-79 period as this would set him up to be discharged out of the FFL by the time of the Rhodesian Bush War as a mercenary (64-79), which sounds like it was winding down during 78-79. These settings would also be a story arc for his "crimes committed in Libya and Rhodesia". Possibly crossed paths with The Twins, Voltar and Wild Weasel during these times. 4. Eye injury either during his time in the FFL (gets discharged) or during his mercenary days. 5. Wanted by the UN he joins Cobra late 70's/early 80's. |

Is the USS Flagg nuclear powdered? I'm trying to decide if and how many nuclear technicians I need.

Wikipedia says it's a CVN so it's nuclear powered. Can't see anything on Yo Joe! on the actual toy to indicate that.

Since it falls under the era of the Nimitz class carrier, all of which are CVNs, and since it resembles a Nimitz class carrier, I think it's safe to assume it is nuclear powered.

So... Maybe 3 nuclear specialists (with assistants) to work 3 separate shifts are adequate? Since all the CBRN JOEs are Army and low pay grade, I'm assuming some nameless "Aqua-Shirts" will have to fill these roles?

the entire crew of the Flagg - Keel-Haul and some pilots aside - should be nameless 'blue shirts'.

Most of my support roles are filled by nameless Joes. So I try to use as many as I can. An aircraft carrier requires a lot of sailors. Maybe employ at least an officer to serve as department head for each department and some division officers to assist them, followed by some chief petty officers to manage the enlisted crews.
Green shirts = Army Blue shirts = Air Force Tan shirts = Marines White shirts = Navy Orange shirts = Coast Guard |
