Just to add to John's post, modern batteries are organized a little differently than other units. A typical battery has an HQ, a Fire Direction Center led by a LT, an ammunition section, and eight howitzer sections, each with one howitzer led by a Section Chief (E-6). Companies are usually numbered with phonetic letters like Alpha, Bravo, etc. and platoons are usually numbered 1st, 2nd, etc.

Also, guys like Steeler and Thunderwing would be mechanized infantry, which is separate from artillery? |

Thanks Tank! I didn't have my caffeine right away when I posted that so wasn't thinking on all cylinders. Quote:
Steeler and Thunderwing would be from the Armor branch. Think of it as in-direct Fire (artillery) versus direct fire (tanks). You would also have the same issue as the arty Joes in that there are only a handful of named ones in the Armor branch. Green shirts would be needed to fill the tanks. Since Steeler is a "Tank Commander" he would command a total of four tanks in his platoon, each tank consisting of four Joes. |

Correct. From my count there are only a handful of Joes from the Artillery branch. You would need to fill the rest in with green shirts. Steeler and Thunderwing would be from the Armor branch. What's even more weird, is that the two JOE leaders, Hawk and Duke, are both Artillery (yet they have very few men to lead). You would think that Hama saw the JOE team as a battery HQ that covers for its infantry, if it wasn't for the fact that he rarely ever used artillery (even when it made sense). Just the MMS (Mobile Missile System) by itself has a range of miles it can cover. Those three missiles could put a big damper on any Cobra plans. |

Airwave is with the US Army Signal Corps. What exactly does he do once he's on the ground?

RTO calling in evac, calling in mission sitreps. Maintaining contact with other deployed elements as the comms hub, probably acting as the comms hub for the SP team.
