The file card of the original Frag Viper says that frag vipers are trained to hurl grenades like the sport Jai Alai which is odd

just for shits'n'giggles, I've been kicking about ideas for a realistic modern take on the Oktober Guard. Since the name is passe, I decided to name them Iron Bear.
Iron Bear Special Purpose Force CO Col. Ivan Brekhov Alpha Group section 'Kuvalda' (Sledgehammer) Squad leader Mjr Anatoly Krimov VDV Airborne section 'Molot' (Hammer) squad leader Sgt Grigori Rostoff Naval Infantry section 'Akula' (Shark) Squad leader Lt Mikhail Gorky Mechanised Infantry section 'Kulak' (Fist) squad leader Sgt Misha Zubenkov each section comprising 1 section leader, 2x sniper, 1x EOD/demolitions specialist, 1x medic, 1x signaller, 1x automatic weapon/machine gun specialist and 1 utility trooper. Air support comprising 4x Mil-24 'Hind D' helicopters call-sign 'Yastreb' (Hawk) and 2x Su-25 'Frogfoot' anti-armour jets, call-sign 'Sokol' (Falcon) and Berkut (Golden Eagle) |

You're making me want to pull out my Oktober Guardsmen and review them. Do you have slots for all the known members work out? Like Dragonsky is the highest ranking enlisted guy, who happens to be the team's mechanic, and supposedly can operate any vehicle.

not really, that was about all I'd worked out.
Other than no Shrage and I'm annoyed Stormavik has no real name as I'd've made him Molot squad leader otherwise, instead of Big Bear. I'm in two minds as to whether to have Daina as codename Vorona and one of the Hind pilots, or use my fic's version of Volga since I made her a separate character. I'm thinking Horror Show as a Russian-born Georgian in the Kulak section. I'd probably stick Wong from the cartoons and Ruslan from the DDP comics in the Kuvalda section. Most of the rest would be OCs from my fic. |

Read a preview of issue 260 earlier today. The Joes added a new drone pilot: Joystick
Can't quite tell if its a male or female, but its a useful addition. I tend to like stories with C-list joes: Repeater, Muskrat, Leatherneck, Heavy Duty, Airborne. I might pick this one up. |

I need to pick up all the issues I've missed.

So we may have discussed this before, by how large does everyone envision Cobra's army forces? I keep playing with different ideas and reshaping the size of my Joe force and I think it should be dependent on the size of the enemy's forces. So just how big is Cobra?
Is it powerful enough to build a corps or army-size force? Multiple armies? And where does Cobra base or deploy them? (I'm looking at this more from a comic-, cartoon-, or story-based perspective than one based on figures.) If Cobra is working with smaller units around the world, just how large are its bases. Brigade-size? Division? Just curious about what others thought. I see Cobra as having a fairly large number of forces. Perhaps maybe a divisional force in strategic places around the world, maybe one on each continent. Not sure about its navy though. Its hard to lay low when you have a massive fleet of carriers and ships ported somewhere. I imagine Cobra would build a cheaper and easier-to-hide fleet of submarines to protect its maritime interests. |

In the comics, I'd say it's got to be nearly a 1/4 million people at it's peak. (Anywhere from Cobra Island's creation to the end of the ARAH series in '94)
After all, they took the population of a small to medium size town to CI from Springfield. That's got to be 25 to 75 thousand at a minimum. There then has to be any number of other operatives that they didn't immediately take out there from across the US and possibly further afield. They must have something that's multi-brigade size in order to take over Benzheen or stage the invasion of Borovia and Wolkekuckland in the later stages of the book. |

Cobra also includes members of other organizations/companies such as the Dreadnoks biker gang, certain employees of Extensive Enterprises, etc. Cobra will also make allies in other countries by procuring weapons and training for them. In my Joe-verse Cobra starts the slow process of getting its Crimson Guard members to get in elected positions, first starting small by getting into city government, then county, then state and eventually country. Along the way these CG's influence others into joining the cause of Cobra. So this would be difficult to determine the size. I think in my fan-fic I will keep it more or less ambiguous as to the size of Cobra. |

It has to be big, but that seems ridiculous at the same time. 250,000 sounds reasonable though as crazy as that really is. That is/was a big as ISIS during it's height. And that is just the military wing of things. The Active British military is only 150,000 right? Probably broken up into 300 man units or smaller. I mean how does anything bigger remain hidden?
Although Like CapTBritain says, the Battle of Benzheen must have been larger than a Battalion. For Comparison:(not sure how current this is)
