Just to keep the conversation going. Yes you are probably right as this team could just as easily be a Pathfinder unit, but I forgot to share that team. I figure one team runs a pathfinder mission and one runs a more Combat Control Team role so the Joes have massive amounts of firepower at their disposal.

No idea, but my Tripwire is more like the IDW version who is at least a Ranger.

I'm not familiar with IDW continuity. Is Tripwire presented differently? Also is he Ranger-qualified or was he a member of the 75th Regiment?

I'm not sure it is really expanded on, but he is definitely more of a skilled operator than the bumbling fool we know and love from the Marvel days.

John, I just looked at an MTOE from 2011 for an aviation battalion. Its pathfinder company has an HQ section, a general support (GS) platoon of two pathfinder teams, a combat medic section, a direct support (DS) platoon of two pathfinder teams, and a base radio station of radio operator-maintainers (25C). I didn't see any combat engineers. Pathfinder team members are 11B with a parachutist (P) for Special Qualification Identifier and pathfinder (F7) for Additional Skill Identifier.
Pathfinder Company, Aviation Battalion -Company HQ -GS Platoon --Platoon HQ --Pathfinder Team x 2 -DS Platoon --Platoon HQ --Pathfinder Team x 2 -Base Radio Station A GS team has 14 soldiers: Team Sergeant (E7) Team Leader (E6) x 2 Assistant Team Leader (E5) x 4 Pathfinder (E4) x 4 Pathfinder (E3) x 3 A DS team has 22 soldiers: Team Leader (E6) x 2 Assistant Team Leader (E5) x 6 Pathfinder (E4) x 6 Pathfinder (E3) x 8 Last edited by Tanksmasher; 03-08-2019 at 06:49 AM.. |

Nice Tanksmasher. Where did you find this? What else is part of an Aviation Battalion?
I was loosely using the term Pathfinder team to fill a role I made up for Airborne Joes. I mean Air Assault, or Airborne troopers roles as I imagine the Joes sounds in line with what you just found. But I figured the Joes would need a Combat Controller team as well so I have one team of each in my Airborne Squadron. How does a Pathfinder team get used to support and Aviation Battalion. Base Recon?

I copied it from a site that one of our thread members provided. The site is no longer up but I have copies of various MTOEs from around 2011.
Pathfinders are essentially the Army's air traffic controllers, similar to the USAF's combat controllers. They may have to insert before the battalion arrives in order to facilitate landing zones and direct traffic into an area where there is no infrastructure for conducting flights. When I have more time, I'll post the other companies in the Aviation Battalion. |

Thanks Tank, got the wheels turning in my head. Seems like most Pathfinder units are disbanded, but the aviation units have a Pathfinder unit. They do need engineers though to clear runways, but those must be attached.
