I was wondering about something. Gears is a Captain in the Star Brigade. His file card makes him seem like a big deal as an R&D guy (made Cobra's "Top Ten Most Wanted" list). Do you think he would be Air Force or Navy, since Star Brigade should be composed mostly of pilots? (Yeah, I know there's exceptions: Hawk, Duke, Roadblock, Rock 'n Roll, Heavy Duty, etc.) Is there R&D in other branches of the service, besides Army?

I always assumed Air Force. Air Force runs Space command, although his R&D background makes me think more Air Force Research Laboratories.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Air_Fo...rch_Laboratory Not sure if Navy has similar R&D work geared towards Space. I have Gears, Jane, Boffin, and Brainstorm running the experimental weapons testing for Battle Force 2000. Space Shot is the real oddball for me from Star Brigade. Him and Sci-Fi as pilots when they are only E-4s.

I just made Space Shot and O-4 and ignored all the space pilot BS.

I feel that in general small teams of Joes should be lead by NCO's in the ranks of E-7 through E-9 (much like Delta) with officers in the ranks of O-3 and O-4 leading several of these 4-6 man teams. Of course once and a while if the mission requires it then an officer leading one team on a recon mission (much like the mission in Lone Survivor). My team leaders would be:
Stalker Snake-Eyes Rock'n'Roll Gung-Ho Roadblock Recondo Dusty Shipwreck Leatherneck Wet-Suit Beach Head Outback Blizzard Skydive Tracker I don't really see Flint leading a team as warrant officers are not typically leaders but more like subject matter experts advising officers. EDIT: Forgot to add that in my Joe-verse Torpedo is an O-3 so I place him with my other low-ranking officers in leading several small 4-6 man teams. |

Of course my other pairings are Stalker and Snake-Eyes on the same Troop, Roadblock and Gung-Ho in the same Troop and as much as I dislike the cartoon series I do place Alpine and Bazooka in the same Troop. lol |

I can't think of any natural pairing than those 3 pairs. Maybe Leatherneck and Wet-Suit.

I think after all these years of trying to find the "right" way to organize my Joes I have finally decided on them starting out as a fledgling unit where the original 13 are the first to report in. They are responsible for helping to set up the unit while waiting for other Joes to finish their current assignments before being transferred. Hawk will continue to make changes to the TOE and billets on the team as the unit progresses. I am thinking of the Marines DETONE where it took several weeks for everyone to report to that unit. Although unlike the Joe team in my fanfic it sounds like DETONE already had their billets in place before the formation of the unit. With this in mind I have revised (yet again) my fanfic and actually have made some small progress on it (after not doing anything with it for almost a year). Hopefully I will post something in the fanfic section of this site in the coming weeks. |

Can't wait to read it. I am not much of a writer, but I imagine trying to write about my JoeVerse would end up being way way harder than I think. #1 issue would be the timeline. Not just the when and where, but the fact my Joeverse exist as if all the Joes that ever existed were on the team at the same time. I still do it that way, but I imagine very few would remain on the team for very long especially the non-Army Joes. So everything would have to exist in a 3 years span tops.

Admittedly I am not much of a writer either. Even the few paragraphs that I have written took a while for me to do. Also because of how I kept going back and forth on how I structured my Joes I had the first scene with either Hawk or Colton being asked to lead this new team (I actually have both versions written). I finally settled on Hawk but then my dilemma was to either fast forward to the Joes being an established unit or to start them as a fledgling unit a few months after Hawk was given command. There are a lot of core Joes that I want to utilize in my wiring but then there are some (Skidmark, Armadillo, Cold Front, etc) that I really do not have any interest in. So taking inspiration from the first 10 Marvel comics I am focusing on the Original 13 before I start to add more Joes in the mix.
On the downside of going this route (starting a fledgling unit) is there is a lot of talking and not a lot of action at the beginning. I am trying to shorten it down some so as not to bore the audience. I want to add enough detail to know how the Joes are being structured but not so much detail that I lose my audience. I don't want to pull a "Star Wars Universe" and have a long and unnecessary background for each person that the reader is exposed to (i.e. BAT number 2071 started his life as a toaster, living in a middle class neighborhood from 1997 to 2002. He met up with another toaster and they decided their life was not fulfilling so they decided to join Cobra....). Yeah...no. lol |
