I organize many of the vipers by duty positions so a Cobra rifle company would have Vipers (riflemen, light grenadiers, and light machine gunners), SAW-Vipers (heavy machine gunners), Frag Vipers (heavy grenadiers), Flak Vipers (anti-aircraft), Tele-Vipers (radiomen and FOs), HEAT Vipers (anti-armor), Laser Vipers (JTACs), Night Vipers (snipers), etc.
Frag and SAW Vipers make up grenadier and machine gun teams that belong to a heavy weapons squad. Techno-Vipers (combat engineers), Alley Vipers (military police / special reaction teams), Air Vipers (aviators), WORMS (canoneers) and others fill combat support roles. My special recon or elite long-range recon assets consist of snow serpents, sand scorpions, eels, jungle vipers, rock vipers... Last edited by Tanksmasher; 03-17-2016 at 02:12 PM.. |

My HEAT Vipers do all AMCOM type missile maintenance logistics QA and man missile vehicles like the Imp. The yellow color looks nice near them. I use tele vipers to fill in extra vehicle seats as comms guys and usually put one in the head shed. Technos are combat engineers but end up spending most of their time repairing or upgrading vehicles... like a 15 tango or whatever the non aviation equivalent is. I also have them convert turncoat vehicles, like I had a whole storyline for them recently when I bought the club Wave crusher's and had Cobra steal SHARCS, then the TVs convert, re-spray them. Same with my cobra (1998 Rattler?) versions of the 50th urban camo vamps.
To me all of those X Vipers were Vipers but then got additional training and upgraded uniforms and usually stay in those roles but if need be can grab those original Viper guns and rock back at the Joes. The elite Horseman... I call them Cobra basilisks anyway... are just Viper vehicle drivers sort of like the Viper equivalent of the Hiss Driver. And of course as with many specialties there are Crimson versions of most of these. I really want Hasbro to release a python HEAT viper with that 50th mold so it can be my Crimson variant. |

Yeah I guess Sand/Desert-Vipers and Desert Scorpions as well as most Direct Action vipers must do some Recon.

I don't tend to view Cobras as being SOF comparable. To me, the Blueshirts are regular infantry, Vipers are slightly better equipped infantry. Everything else is a Viper with better training in a particular field, like driving STUNs, HISSes, Stingers or being a frogman, an Arctic trooper, a machine-gunner etc. The main exception being the aerial Vipers who I see as being trained pilots who start out as Air-Vipers, flying Rattlers and then specialise out to Night Ravens, Firebats, Hurricanes, Condors, etc. and a few being selected to go into the glider pilot corps as Night Vultures and Air Devils. Gyro-Vipers and Heli-Vipers I see as a seperate pilot branch altogether.

The original Shadow Viper only makes sense if he's some kind of underwater specialist or outer space specialist (elite-of-the-elite). His file-card does not match his "Astro-Viper" outfit... As a "counter-intelligence" agent, maybe he goes where no other Cobra spy dares to go.

Same thing goes for the Rock-Vipers. Never cared for the original figure, but the Range-Viper release was one of my favorites from the 2000-2002 line |

Getting back to who was Medic qualified, Hard Drive's file card lists him as being one.

I believe somebody already mentioned him. I also think that character would be Special Forces as well, being qualified as a medic and communications (maybe he is a SF Communications Sergeant cross-trained as a medic?). The character has a lot going on in his filecard.

I imagine the weapons specialist Vipers being deployed in squads with regular Vipers. So a squad might include six regular Vipers, and a Frag, Saw, and HEAT Viper and maybe a Tele Viper as well for comms. I suppose they could also reorganize themselves into a heavy weapons/support squad and couple of rifle squads.
I assume that the environmental specialists include guys who have done time as various weapons specialist Vipers. So there is no need for a regular SAW Viper to tag along with a squad of Snow Serpents - at least one of the Snow Serpents probably went through SAW Viper training before becoming a Snow Serpent, so he just carries the machine gun for his squad. |
