Nice to have you 1242. This thread has lost some of its steam in recent months. Nothing new and the obvious lack of filecards. But I bet everyone still checks ins. But you make a good point as far as the importance of the filecards and the connections we made as kids.
Birthplace which they at least added back with POC, is one we all immediately identify with. Sadly nothing with the retaliation figures. Kids these days are smart enough to be interested in what it takes to become a special operations operator. Smarter than I was 30 years ago. So when we read things like Ranger school, or Airborne qualified we hold those Joe's to a higher standard because lets face if the US military is cool in the minds of young boys (and old boys too) . I don't. Know why they have too push all this gimicky photoshop crape glitzing the packaging. That goes on the front. O the back should be filecard and pictures of all the other figures you still haven't gotten yet. I use to spend hours looking at those. Star Wars had that too. I'm hoping after retaliation they finish off the ARAH Joe's and maybe add a new character or two with at least a feable attempt at filecards. It would be awesome if they just asked us as the fans to write them.

Yeah, it'd be good to see them finish off the ARAH characters, especially the 1990 wave of Joes. Even though their file cards were over the top at time, they were really the last group of semi-realistic specialties. It reminds me of how the '86 Joes were largely replacements for the '82-'83 characters. But I agree that we also need some new characters, or remakes of more recent characters like Med Alert, Bombstrike, Face, and Switch Gears.

I agree with you guys about finishing off the updates and maybe adding some new Joes too. I would love for there to be as much thought put into the filecards as there was in the 80's. Even though we've been given some new characters- Helix, Sandstorm, Kickstart, Night Fox, the lack of a backstory and other filecard info for them has been a big let down.

'87 was the last good year of filecards (at least to me, anyway). 88 and onward they started getting ridiculous. Hardball was a perfect example.

I felt Pathfinder's filecard seemed realistic, how about any of you?
By that, I mean the first one. The second on, is another story. At least the part about him hating bugs I can resonate with(hate, hate, HATE! them too.), but the part where he was nine years old, and his parents actually let him camp out in the Everglades, BY HIMSELF? For a week? Wow, maybe his dad trusted that he'd be okay considering he's the on that taught him all he needed to know about survival and all that, but I'm willing to bet his mom would've been going crazy with worry the whole friggin week! <:O

Not really filecard related but a thought that popped into my head as I was walking the dog this morning-
In Saving Private Ryan should Tom Hanks' character, Capt. Miller, have been put up for the Medal of Honor? His mission was to locate and retrieve Ryan, which he accomplished (at least partially) before dying on the bridge. Having accomplished the mission he chose to stay and defend the bridge. Some people will say that he didn't have a choice because Ryan wouldn't leave, but I'm sure as resourceful as the character was he would have found a way around that if he wanted to. So in light of successfully leading a defense of the bridge and to a lesser extent saving Ryan should he get the medal? |

So today I decided to ignore the idea of Cobra & GI Joe having two names that sound the same. I'll just use both, for instance Clay Moore and Claymore, then Lilah & Lialah (my Joe'verse 14th Original Joe Shooter- Jodie Craig).

Another Marvel "Order of Battle" possible top secret goof. Crosscountry is given the filename of Arlen W Slaughter. Since I never had Crosscountry's filecard, I thought Crosscountry was another Sergeant Slaughter. But apparently Arlen Slaughter is an alias of Sgt Slaughter. When I started doing filecard research when I got back into GI JOE in around 2008 I found out Crosscountry was really Robert M Blais. But didnt know about the Sgt Slaughter "alias" until today.

I was thumbing through the beginning pages of this thread and people were discussing Gi Joe character birthplaces. Is there a database somewhere where one could find the birthplaces of all the Joes listed by state? I am specifically curious about Joes from Southern California ( I know Shipwreck is from San Diego). thanks.
