What would be the legal issue? If they were honest about who they were, and we volunteer our services, I can't see a problem with that.

Great idea on Slaughter Oliver. He's definately a bad ass. Just take out the crap from the cartoon.

Point taken. Though didn't the once state in a roundabout manner that they do take inspiration from the fans?

I'll get off my soap box in a minute, but I really want to make this point: This thread is the longest running information thread on the Tank. It's not a game or about another line of Toys - this is THE thread about Joe continuity. And if people have a question, and they really want to know all the details, the usually show up here and ask us. It's our thing - we're the continuity nerds of Hisstank. And to be fair, we're way better about it than Larry Hama ever thought about being. So Hasbro does a terrible Job with continuity. I mean it's abismal. The file cards are a mess; they have no idea what they're doing with the comic - it's crazy. It would cost them virtually nothing to come on here and get their stuff straight. We'd be happy and thrilled to help - but they don't. But let me make another case for it: If word got out on the whole Tank that Hasbro was working with "The File Card Brethren" - which would mean they were working directly with Hisstank - how much would morale improve? Tankers might take a new outlook/opinion of Hasbro. It would be in Hasbro's best interest to make use of us as a resource, and they don't. It's just stupid. That's it. I'm off my soap box now. Thanks for listening.

Marine Corps Special Ops is doing a lot more stuff like Army Special Forces: mainly, training indigenous forces in foreign countries. Wouldn't it make sense, then, for a Marine Special Ops unit to have qualified Drill Instructors as a part of their team to help train these indigenous people? Leatherneck is a qualified DI, but wouldn't it make a lot of sense to have Slaughter with the team to work with the tribesmen and whip them into shape? Hearts, Minds & Butts!

Have to wonder what Slaughter was up to before he became a DI. Do DIs spend time in the field prior to kicking recruit ass?

My understanding is that they have to do quite a bit of time in regular line units, and earn a spotless record of distinguished service - for one thing, they have to be an NCO, and that takes a few years. Combat vets are preferable. Then, as a part of the Drill Instructor training program, they have to go back through basic training before they can earn the title of 'Drill Instructor'. My guess is, if Slaughter served as an Infantry Drill Instructor, he had to have been an OUTSTANDING Infantry Marine - probably Recon qualified.

Wouldn't surprise me to find out the ol' Sarge has a file marked Top Secret with lots of words blacked out.

Yeah, but they've NEVER been clear about what that means.

You make a good and valid argument, but at the same time, I can see where they'd be hesitant to work publicly and directly with us. For one thing, even though this is one of the more active sites in the fandom, it's still just one site. While working with us would likely raise morale and respect for Hasbro across the Tank, it would also likely be frowned upon by other sites and fans as "favoritism" or some such.
