Well, the JHSV was designed to need a minimum full-time crew of about 30 to 35 men. A lot of the systems are automated and computer-controlled.
Your average "handysize" freighter designed for intercontinental shipping would probably have a crew numbering anywhere from 40 to 70 men, depending on the type of material/cargo it's carrying. You'll have ~20 men in the deck department, another ~20 men in engineering, and about 10 men in the steward's department. It'll need a much smaller crew if it's a freighter converted for military transport use, though, since the passengers (particularly any Navy sailors) can probably serve in the deck department as unlicensed hands.

I know one of the early ones had a remote-operated weapons mount. It either had a .50 cal heavy machine gun mounted on it or a 20 mm autocannon. The JHSV isn't designed to be heavily armed. The idea is that the onboard helicopter will serve as its primary offensive weapon against submarines and enemy small craft and its primary defense is its superior speed and handling (as well as an advanced set of sensors) compared to military vessels of similar size and capacity.

Sounds exactly what I'm looking for.

What do you want the purpose of your vessel to be? To simply transport troops? Armor? Aircraft? How many personnel would you like roughly? Is it a fighting vessel?

Transport mostly. Armor, no aircraft. The JHSV would also be used to launch operations, launch small attack craft (Devilfish).

I don`t know if any of you like to read the books by Clive Cussler.
He has written a dozzen books with the main character as Dirk Pitt. He has been branching off with some new characters. One series he is doing is about some Covert Intelligence people that do off the book stuff. They have an old container ship that has been converted with a lot of Intelligence stuff. A couple of his books, with a list of characters, are the Golden Budda and Sacred Stone. That way the Joes have a reason to spy on Cobra Island in harbor while delivering supplies from Destro. |

You could launch a helo or two from the landing platform, as well as launch Devilfish, the WHALE or an LCAC to carry your armor and troops to shore. The LCAC can even offload some rubber raiding craft for SEAL ops if need be.

Looks like the precursor to the JHSV.
