Ferrying range and organic weaponry are secondary concerns. None of the three real-world craft you've listed would have the range to go from CONUS to Cobra Island, so they'll all either have to hitch a ride with a much larger vessel until they can get within navigable range of Cobra Island, or in the case of the CRRC, it can be directly air-dropped via C-130 or helo. If you're sending a small SEAL team, stealth is going to be their primary defensive tactic at sea (if a SEAL team has to engage the enemy prior to insertion, they've probably already "been made" and have already failed at their insertion objective) and air-dropping a CRRC is by far a more stealthy method of craft delivery than having a cruiser or even a merchant marine vessel carry a SURC or SOC-R within range of Cobra Island (and again, those two craft aren't really suited for travelling across open ocean for extended distances). |

What about Seal Delivery Vehicles (SDV) and/or Submarine hatch infil?
I'm glad you brought this up, this weekend I want to solidify my team structure. I have my joes organized as a quasi SAS/Delta using Sabre Squadrons. Each Squadron is made up of 4 troops (Mobility, Air, Maritime and Mountain) infiltration methods. Each squad has a different infil method. For example Air is Glider, HaLO/HAHO, Air Assault (Helicopter). In terms of Maritime I have; Small craft (Piranha and Devil Fish), SDV (the vehicles that came with Depth Charge and the Hydro Sleds), Submarine (Sharcs), and Amphibious Vehicle (Warthog) |

So for those keeping track of my progress Im 65% (pg 650) complete with this thread and wow.
I just bought a few more 4-man joe squads and now up to 44 joes. And with Lieutenant Falcon now a Major I figured its 'ALMOST" a Company. So Hawk is now a Lieutenant Colonel. and the joes got promotions to Special Forces Delta Force so-called requirements. My joe-verse finally has a navy vessel. The ship is the True Heroes Navy Seal boat, it's christened "THE ENSIGN CUTTER" and on the bow, I'm designing a logo, a Harpoon missle slicing thru a Cobra Flag. GOLF SQUAD - VBSS Craft and the crew is. -Lieutenant Cutter, Navy Boat Commander (TRU SRO Cutter) -SMC Access Point, Damage Control team: Access, with Ripper's Jaws of life and Benchpress' chainsaw. (25th blue dungarees Shipwreck with grey zartan disguise mp head, (at the moment the figure is much less desired than his job, I want a better figure)). -CPO Search & Seizure, Shore Patrol K-9 handler, (ROC TRU cobra 5-pack 'Dog'. Zartan MP grey disguise, with SP for Shore Patrol on arm and comic 25th shipwreck head with only a mustache, shaven beard. Looks like Leatherneck, if he joined the navy ROFL). -PO1 Mega-Zinger, Ordnance, (Black-Camo Tripwire) -PO1 Topside, VBSS Naval Assault, (Comic Shipwreck body, with 25th normal head shipwreck, might scrape off his beard and rank eagle & rocker but cant bring myself to do it yet, the cartoon tells me not to) -PO2 Barbecue, Damage Control team: nozzle-man, (ROC Barbecue). -SCPO Greenside, has been seen aboard The Ensign Cutter, while the Alpha Squad (Marines) is unassigned. They deploy my UDT divers and SEALS... heh. Foxtrot Squad -Lieutenant Torpedo (25 Torpedo) -SCPO Shipwreck (ROC Shipwreck) -CPO Deep Six (TRU SRO Deep Six -PO1 Wetsuit (TRU SRO Torpedo) I found an ROC Para-Viper at Target, just need to find a way to make him an Oliverbox inspired SEAL. Maybe if they ever make a Lowlight v1 in current style Joes. Hint hint Hasbro. I can buy two, and we will finally have a Lowlight and create a Navy Seal out of the other one. EDIT: I would almost like for Shipwreck to be the 25th comic pack to be Shipwreck as Gunners mate and get someway for cutter's or gungho's cover to come off and re-attach it to Shipwreck and paint it how a CPO would be. With the white shirt, and black pants and an officer's cover it would be almost finally perfect for the 80's uniform. Then Access Point would be an extra Barbecue's body without the upper chest plate, with Duke TRU 5-pack cobra's head with a pit commando's breather, which would free up that character to be for Topside.

Awesome work Takedown. Maybe this weekend I'll get around to reorganizing my Joe forces.
I'd use the CRRC for the SEaL insertion. They drop in from a C-130 or Tomahawk/Osprey. Take the CRRC to the beach and then go for their objective. They then take out the defenses so the main force can infil from WHALEs and other landing craft. The Joes need a real landing craft, something that can carry tanks and jeeps.

I don't remember if it was Troynos or Tyroc (maybe both?) who were musing on their respective Joe-verses' Cobra organizations as being descended from an ancient "secret society" type group, but I figure you guys might want to tie in your ideas with the Cult of Asklepios (the Greek God of Healing), which originated in Ancient Greece (readily ties in with Serpentor's Philip II of Macedon and Alexander the Great ancestry) but quickly spread to northern Africa and as far east as India. Some sects of the cult engaged in what could be considered snake worship (seeing as how the Greek god Asklepios was associated with the snake). Heck, you could even tie Cobra in with the snake-handling Christian cults in the rural US and Canada.

That's awesome Zulu. Thank you.
My idea of Cobra is more a secret society like Skull and Bones moreso than say Freemasons. My Cobra La will be more religious cultist sort of a cross between Scientology and Landmark forum. I want their most devout believers to be like the Kobra nuts in the DCU. I'm thinking of using the Vipers from the Imperial procession as "Temple Vipers", quasi chaplains/fanatics. |

Heh. Thanks!
The thing about Asklepios (spelled Asclepius in some sources) is that he's the kind of tragic figure that would attract somebody like Cobra Commander (a misguided, if somewhat well-meaning visionary who thinks he's doing the right thing and helping the "little guy"). Asklepios' story is that he learned the secrets of healing and immortality from a serpent, and he tried to give humans those secrets, but Zeus killed him before he could do it, reasoning that it wasn't man's place to learn the secrets of immortality (interesting side note: sort of reminiscent of certain elements of the Genesis book in the Christian Bible, isn't it?). |

The CRRC is certainly the choice for me if I need to insert a recon team or conduct covert operations. Granted I never gave the context or nature of the mission. The seals could always dive off the back of a hydrofoil and swim to shore while having some heavy firepower waiting for them in case of trouble, and they don't necessarily have to exfiltrate the same way they came in. I suppose its possible to airlift a SURC near the island and abandon it afterwards and then have helos come in for an evac once the shit hits the fan. Depends on how you imagine the scenario. Maybe send one of the riverine craft up river to get to the heart of the island. Again it all depends on the nature of the mission.
