SEAL rifle squads are organized similar to your typical infantry squad, the main difference beng that instead of 9 soldiers (1 squad leader plus two 4-man fireteams), they're usually composed of 8 SEALs (the squad leader doubles as the leader of one of the fireteams). In most contexts, you'd find at least one SAW gunner (armed with the NAVSPECWAR version of the M249, called the Mk 46 Mod 0), or even a full-on machine gunner (equipped with the NAVSPECWAR version of the M60 -- the Mk 43 Mod 0/1 -- or alternatively, the 7.62x51mm version of the Mk 46 Mod 0, known as the Mk 48 Mod 0) in the squad.

Yeah she works for the Dept of Energy. But we leave the 28th hopefully? We're still waiting for visas. We should have internet the same, although I'm guessing someone is always watching you. I guess I'll be posting in the middle of the night. It's a two year gig, with the option for the third year.
And I haven't even started learning Russian yet, so I need to get a tutor when I get there. |

The 10th Marine
Gentlemen, tonight my wife and I went over to my brother's apartment and watched Resolute and The Rise of Cobra. We had a blast. My brother has a HD Big Screen TV and Blue Ray, so the picture on Rise of Cobra was fantastic. Anyway, he and I noticed something tonight. When Sgt. Stone pulls up on his little "Motor Trike" he raises his arm and he has a tattoo. I had not noticed this in the theater, and my brother said, "Did you see his tattoo?" He rewinded the movie and paused it - USMC Eagle Globe and Anchor on his right forearm. Sgt. Stone is a U.S. Marine. He's the 10th Marine. Now, considering that his lousy RoC file card insists that he's a "Special Operations Instructor", I'm going to suggest that he's MARSOC and possibly one of the MARSOC Advisors - like the Green Berets. He also teaches Marksmanship, which to me suggests that he's a qualified Marine Scout/Sniper as well as a Recon Marine. Has anyone else seen the DVD and noticed this? Has anyone else noticed any differences from the Theatrical release and the DVD? I thought I noticed some subtle changes. Interesting about Sgt. Stone, though. I know a lot of people have though he was sort of a stand in for Flint because he wears a beret and his name is "Stone", but the more apt comparison maybe that he's more of a stand in for Gung-Ho. Thoughts?

Wow lots of stuff happening today.
Congrats on the hauls guys! Topside, congrats on the new house and best of luck moving. Loose, that's cool about Moscow. Just hope joes aren't too hard to come by or at least eBay shipping doesn't suck. Oliver, that's awesome news about the 10th Marine. I'm gonna have to watch ROC again now. I finally got a big haul from ebay today. I have Sgt Stone finally (as well as all the Walmart and TRU exclusives and 16 other ROC figs). |

Saw the tatoo in the theatre, but it was hard to make out the EGA. He'd most likely be part of SOTG. I remember there were rumors he'd be playing Gung-Ho during pre-production. The only thing is that Marines haven't worn berets since Vietnam. They have a saying "The only people who wear berets are frenchman and girl scouts.".
Sgt. Stone wears a beret, which is odd for a Marine. However, it's the same type of beret that Hawk wears in the movie, and it may simply be part of the unit's uniform. I know a lot of soldiers who hate the black Army beret, but that's just the uniform right now. On the other hand, the movie had so many other "technical" problems with the uniforms and other aspects military details that it's almost laughable. The tattoo was in such an odd position on his arm - who gets a tattoo like that? weird. The whole movie is pretty weird. So why do you think he's SOTG as opposed to any other type of Special Ops Marine? I don't see why that would be all that more likely that on the MARSOC Advisor Units. What's your reasoning?

Nice haul. I'm glad all those figures came in for you. That's really cool. Are you going to give us a total list of the figures you got?

Thoughts? Not sure about Sgt. Stone being intended as a Gung-Ho stand-in, though. Gung-Ho exists as a separate character in the "RoC universe" (Gung-Ho is a distinct and separate character from Sgt. Stone in the RoC video game, which is in the same continuity as the film and serves as an "almost sequel"... think of it as GI Joe 1.5). |
