Just got back from Pawtucket where the family and I got a private tour of Hasbro. No joke, I have a friend who knows one of the QA personnel and she took us all over the headquarters from 1:00-3:30.
Upon arriving we got a nifty visitor sticker and then proceeded down the History Hall and then down the 2013 Spring Preview hall. Where we got to see all the new stuff for 2013. As you can see from the picture once we went through the doors - no pictures were allowed and we were asked to keep "hush hush" about what we saw. After the 2013 stuff we were taken to a lab with a couple thousand Play Dough containers everywhere. There we meet the one of the techs who tests and makes Play Dough. Next we went to the durability testing room where the guys there drop, smash and crush toys to make sure they hold up to standards. That area was super fun! Then we went through Hasbo's in house studio and out into this warehouse/hallway where there were piles of toys and junk all over the place. Vintage and new, I saw a bunch of Terror Drome parts next to shelves of Star Wars shells. As we past a couple of empty Sideshow boxes we went into the QA area. There everyone's desk was like a mini toy store filled with old and new toys of everything Hasbro makes. At this point I met with the QA lady for Joe, and I think Marvel, we didn't have much time to talk because she was heading to a meeting, but she took us over to the design and R&D area. Again this place was crazy! There were stacks of toys everywhere. Old, new, opened and boxed. At one guys desk you could only see his computer the rest was covered in Star Wars figs. The same at another desk only it was covered with Transformers. We then saw the prototype room. Where we chatted with a sculptor and a fellow who worked on the upcoming Amazing Spiderman toys. Here is where I saw a case full of prototypes and among the figures were three 2-ups along with their vintage figs of Gung-Ho, Alley Viper and the Battle Corps Viper. I've always wanted to see a 2-up!!! That was about it. They also hooked us up with a few toys! Everyone there was super nice and they all seemed to love what they do. And after talking about the Joe line and how limited they are with it we really have to be grateful for what they are putting out. Along with the huge amount of other toys they make. |

Can you go into further detail about how limited they are? I'd like to know more about the constraints they have to work with.
And without specifics regarding what you saw, what lines were in the Spring 2013 hall, and what did you think of them? |

Goddammit, dude! Why didn't you tell us?
This was a perfectly-timed opportunity for us to storm the place with pitchforks and torches! |
