Fellow tanker Steel hit it right on the head with this post,
Quote:
Not to sound corny or cliche, but this is where being a "Community" makes all the difference.
With such diversity in location & demographic, it should be simple to have one thread set up where everyone places a reasonable request that others who are fortunate enough to have availability to the product can do their part to hook up someone in need. Some of us have plenty of access, while others have none. This would be easy to moderate and would help all parties involved. The "Seekers" could charge a minimal percentage for time and fuel but less than scalping prices as not to become a loss. A structure like this would be easy to moderate and would set the tone for similar situations in the future. Down here in Corpus Christi, Texas we have been blessed with an abundance of Dollar Generals. And also in talking with other members I have learned there are other locations that have an abundance of Dollar Generals too. We are a community and we need to bring back the spirit of good will to it. We should be helping each other. I have asked fellow tanker Steel and bassitcarlos to help me with the guide rules. But anyone who wants to help is more then welcome. Added for clarification Quote:
Dropkick
Asked me this good question and I didn't want to blow up him page with the long reponse so Im posting the answer here. "I suspect you will be very busy answering fellow Tanker questions so I'll keep this short. I read the Help a Tanker get DG Joes thread & I'm still confused.....do y'all want us Tankers to ask for help in the thread it's self or PM the individuals that are selling them? Maybe I missed that part but I have to ask." The way Im doing it is by looking at who has posted in here first and shows a valid need for them. My PM box is getting filled up to quickly, so instead of you sending a pm with your wants please post them here and I will pm you when your up. This helps me with the first come first serve thing and keeps things fair. Thanks Last edited by DaveViper; 05-22-2012 at 01:01 PM.. |

Here is a list of names of tankers who said they would be willing to help. Some of the members have specified that they are willing to trade.
Unless they specify to pm them please allow them to contact you first. This will keep tankers pm boxes from blowing up. I am trying to set this up as a place where people who have the Joes can meet with people who need them. Here is the list of Tankers who have said they would help in this thread. If more people want to help I can add their names to this list. Here were some of the thoughts steel and I shared on the ground rules and were kicking around. Comments and thoughts please. I want to hear what the community thinks.
This would be on a first come/first serve set-up where those who have DG in abundance sell to those that have a need, for a set price determined by the community at large. As an example, say 5-10% mark up for time and fuel, as not to make this a loss for the good people "seeking" for others. This special arrangement would be moderated by a select few members, to ensure that no scalpers were allowed to buy. This would be enforced by allowing only longtime members with a certain post count to take part. No throwaway accounts, only proven community oriented members. The goal is to help create a Collector-Spirit that is missing from what we do here today. Again please weigh in. Nothing is set in stone were just trying to get this running and in a smooth organized fashion. Last edited by DaveViper; 05-22-2012 at 05:09 PM.. |

Hello Everyone,
DaveViper has really set the tone here, and exemplifies what a community is really all about. The "DG Project" is the forst effort in what could be an ingoing way of helping all us..help each other. The Mission: -To allow everyone to be able to collect and enjoy the GI Joe 3 3/4" line as currently distributed via Dollar General stores exclusively. The Team: -This Mission requires Tankers that HAVE DG stores in their area with the resources and time to be able to routinely pick these figures up for the Tankers that DO NOT have them. The Rules: -This is a Community, Not-for-Profit Effort. a Fair & Reasonable percentage for time and fuel is acceptable. This is a "Pay it forward" environment...you may have today, but need tomorrow. -NO SCALPING. Many members need these figures..be honest and understanding of fellow members. If you put yourself on the list, do so because you need them for your collection, your kids etc but not because you are going to resell them. -NO HOARDING: This is a first come, first serve system. The time for mutliples can come later, for now, let's ensure everyone gets a set or the specifics figures they need. -Membership has it privelages: To be a part of this Mission, you must have been a member of HT for over 2 years, with a post count higher than 300. This may be subject to change, but it is the minimum I would suggest, as to ensure that the everyday contributing community gets their fair chance over new members, who are only here to get rather than to give. Throwaway accounts and anyone failing to follow these rules will be ejected from The Mission. This Mission has nothing to do with Hisstank and/or their Staff and is a Community-Based function inspired by DaveViper. I had an idea, Dave made it happen. We both want to see this Mission become a mainstay that could become a simple way to help Collectors win without the need for ebay, scalping or hoarding. Questions? Drop us a PM or email. Let's make this Mission a success so DG & Hasbro can continue the trend with other assortments in the future. Remember..the Collector you help today, could be the one that PAYS IT FORWARD TO YOU TOMORROW. Steel |

My set is complete so anything I find now is going up for Tankers who need them.
Here is some that I found today. The manager at this store said she had more in the back and would put them out later. If there is an interest Myself, BassitCarlos and Steel are willing to help others. Other fortunate members are invited to help too. My mistake and correction. Shipwreck and Duke are going to Wertdog the rest are still available. As more are found they will be posted here. If no other member has anything to say on the rules stated above then the rules will go into effect. Last edited by DaveViper; 05-21-2012 at 11:27 AM.. |

I think its a great idea but I'm nowhere near 300 posts.
My guess is you are going to have a lot of people who don't post a ton but actually really need help getting these. I guess I should go spam 125 more posts |

I work 3 pm to 12 am Mon-Friday, But I do a pretty good job of answering Pm's when I can at work. Also steel has mentioned he has very good access to the Tank at his work.
I have talked to BassitCarlos and he mentioned he will be helping with the cause too. |

Trazz the goal is to try to get these in the hands of tankers who need them but keep them away from scalpers. I know this is literally impossible to complete eliminate the risk, but we are trying to come up with a process to make that more doable. What do you think? What are your thoughts please? |

I think it's an awesome idea. I know I helped out quite a few folks back when things were hitting Ross. Keeping my fingers crossed for some karma. .
I agree, though, that 300 posts may be a bit high... |

I have a couple ideas but I'm not sure any of them are foolproof.
The first idea that came to mind was requiring someone to have a successful donation to the pay it forward thread. I participated in that and liked it and most people have the feedback in the thread that they actually came through with the goods. Another idea would be just have the price match the lowest on eBay but have the extra money go to buy freebie dg sets to give away or buy stuff for the pay it forward thread giveaways. I can't speak for everyone but I can handle paying the $60 or whatever if I thought the extra was helping other people or getting these figures to people, but not when its just going to somebody that's just making life difficult for fans just to make money. If the price is that high I doubt scalpers would be able to buy from you and make money. I think the feedback threads is a good quantifier, it doesn't help me though because out of all the PIF thread and trades I've done only 1 person has left me any feedback.(Thanks Lion!) I'll keep thinking maybe something else better will come to me. 124 to go Quote:
Thanks for weighing in. This is the feedback I am looking for from the community. Steel what if we also take into account that some tankers do not post a lot. Case in point Trazz has been on the Tank since 2008. Now I am not sure if he has a feeback thread but something like that would help the giving tankers see if a seeking member is an oustanding member of the Tank. Just throwing ideals around.
