My Wife has always been cool with my Joe Collecting. I have a room just for all my Joes, Toys, Comics, etc and I let her decorate the other rooms any way she wants.
Everybody is Happy.

If the relationship is for real and long term, both parties need to understand that the other will make purchases that they think may be "silly" or "not worth it". My wife spends $300 a month for clothes, while I spend probably $50. I see no reason she needs 25 pairs of shoes. She may see no reason I need toys. However, we don't mind the other's purchases because we know they bring the other some enjoyment.
This becomes MUCH more difficult, however, if money or space are tight. Thankfully we're both old enough that we have the income, but I could certainly see a lot more resentment if it was hard to pay the bills each month. When we had less, we used budgets to make it a non-issue. If you both agree that the other has xxx dollars a month to spend on toys/clothes/whatever, and have trust that they will stick to that number, it eliminates the need for the other to complain. Because they agreed to the amount and it's yours to spend however you want. If she wants to blow it all on a $300 purse so be it. Or she can get lots of clothes at Kohl's. Either way, I know she won't spend more than $300 and don't have to worry about it. |

My girlfriend thinks it's cute, since I'm a little kid at heart she sees my love for my childhood as a sign that I'm going to be a great father. In reality, I'm really just a major dork. I teach High school Math, collect GiJoe's, played Magic the Gathering in high school (still play when my buddies and I get together just for old times sake) and I'm the Coach of the Competitive Math Team for my high school....it doesn't get much dorkier than that.
However, I offset my dorkiness by playing sports and coaching Rugby. Some of my friends give me crap about collecting, but when they step into my "JoeRoom" they can't help but play with them. I say embrace it....the people who are going to make fun of you are just too insecure to admit they like them too (or any other childhood toy).
