My .02 cents: DDP has run Joe off the rails.Last weekend I picked up the Storm Shadow and AE issues I missed, about 5 months worth, and I was severely dissappointed.
These books are not worth the money, and if the next issues aren't an immense improvement-specifically,the artwork, the story-'show not tell'! -then I'm dropping the Joe books. And if DDP keeps the license,I won't be back. Last edited by Maxtype; 12-01-2007 at 03:14 PM.. |

I hate the Devil's Due run with VERY few minor exceptions and I would like to see it eradicated. I have been consistently disappointed by their take(s) and would really prefer consistent, well-paced stories.
You can complain about "popping a can o' firefight" all you want. Seeing Gung-Ho call people "bra" makes me want to stop reading.

Ill admit im really new to the world of joe comics. I have original printings of the first 5 issues and nearly all of the DD series, and what ever comics have come with the toys.
So I ask you guys this: Whats so great about Larry Hama? I mean ok cool he wrote the filecards. Great. But what makes his comic writing so cool that so many of you swear by it? I hope the 25th anni comics he wrote arent great examples of his work, cuz they were pretty much crap I thought.... Thats just my opinion. I would gladly like to hear opinions and explanations. |

On the original Marvel run from Hama, I only find issues #11 to the #50's of any interest and worth re-reading. Less than a third of the original run in fact. DDP has a shorter run but a far greater percentage of material I can go back to. If the artwork could be a bit more consistent (and for drake's sake get an INKER!!!) I'd be made up with them carrying on with the comic.
But that's just me and I've read inumerable posts from people who despise the company's take on the franchise. As such, I'd never insist my favourite GI JOE era was the 'best' and the only version 'acceptable'. I'll take what comes (as long as it isn't coming from IDW!) On Hama writing the new title - He worked on JOE in the 1980's. The world has changed and I'm not sure his style suits a 21st Century Joe. I didn't like his GI JOE DECLASSIFIED and I thought the STORM SHADOW series was awful...

Yeah but if Marvel gets it.....then they will put crappy artist on it. Was not a fan of Herbe T or whatever his name is. The only good art Joe had at marvel was mike z on covers...the insides always sucked art wise......

I enjoy the DD version, but if it went back to Marvel, we might see a better quality of art style, and some big time writers might add a cool spin to the legend. And while HAMA is the man for helping create the history of the characters, I agree, the comic pack exclusives, I would not have picked them up in the comic shop, uggh
