DD needs to keep the license. Hama and Marvel were fine for the 80's but giving G.I.joe back to them now would be like Shumacker getting another crack at a Batman movie. Yo Joe Cola and "poppin' a can o' firefight" on a Terrorist organization whose main goal seemed to be the elimination of the team built to stop them (as opposed to any sort of Government overthrow or world domination) doesn't compare to what's starting to go on with DDP and the more 'real-world' ((as much as Joe can be)) issues. I would hate to see a repeat of the last few years of Marvel's run... And Marvel w/out Hama... well, Marvel is way to liberal to do a military book any serious justice... I don't want to see P.C. Joe anymore then I can stand seeing what they did to Capt.America (at least in DDP when the U.S. Govt was out to get the team it was because Cobra had infiltrated the WhiteHouse, not because a Republican is President)... Sorry... must...stop...crazy... ranting... now. Devil's Due Publishing with some solid backing ($$$) from Hasbro to get the book into more than just comic shops (but w/out the "we made a alien monster toy-put it in the next issue" interferance Hama seemed to being jacked with) and they can really make this thing take off! ((more $$$ from Hasbro means less chance of Marvel stealing their staff))

however i would like to see DD keep the license, maybe just get hama to write the big picture for them, sort of a consultant? I think DD has been doing okay lately too (except for the upcoming covers). as for why it took so long? eh, Rome wasnt built in a day. probably just took them a while to get the hang of it. |

I voted for Marvel to get it back, as for one thing, Hasbro would be silly NOT to give it to marvel, as MARVEL still has a presence on the newsstand, and could get readership from those who have no comic stores near them. Keep in mind, there were many newstands in the 80's( I lived next to a mom and pop store where i got all my comics.)

I would personally prefer DDP keep the license. Nothing against Hama, I realize he is primarily responsible for GI Joe having the great and detailed backstory it does, and for the characters and their personal stories.
Now, I haven't read all the Marvel comics, but I am slowly catching up with what I can get, and I have to say, when I read a Marvel GI Joe book (or some of those 'Frontline' books Hama worked on for DDP) I often get extremely annoyed by the nonstop amounts of exposition every character is constantly spouting, by the cliches, by the sense of things not being taken very seriously. I don't get these from the DDP books (which I also haven't read all of, either). Still, I've liked all of what I have read, yes, including the Red Shadows and characters dying. Let me again say, I am not knocking Hama, just saying, I have tended to get very annoyed by the Marvel/Hama writing style of the books I have read. I also think DDP is owed a chance to keep the license, granted that they revived a property that seemed totally dead. Granted, I also like what Marvel has done lately, so I'd be curious to see what they might do. Likely, no matter who gets the license, I will keep reading it anyway. Unless Marvel does something silly like disregard all of DDP's continuity.

Marvel would be able to promote it better, plus I would love to seeG.I.Joe Return to the company that was directly responsible for bringing into comic form in the first place. And with Marvel you could get a 12 month dose delivered to your door!!!

Devil's Due has been doing a great job so far, so I have no problem with them keeping it. Marvel did a great job also, but I don't see the need to spoil a good thing.

As long as they keep Mark Powers on the writing chores, I'm OK with DDP keeping the license. But I'm with those who pine for Larry's return to the main GI Joe book and if it took going back to Marvel to make that happen, then I'd be down with that. Also, I'd love to see Marvel put out trades of issues past #50 of their run...
