I never have understood all the 12 inch hate that seems to go around some places. It's almost as bad as the hate between people that own Fords and Chevys. I really like how the GIJoe club's monthly magazine has a lot of 12 inch stuff in it and historys about the old stuff. It's interesting to see where GIJoe got started and how it continues to evolve over the years.
I'll never forget when I was a kid, had gotten some 12 inch military figures of some sort at Rite Aid and my mother kept calling them dolls and my Dad said they're not dolls they're action figures. Had some kinda cool mini tank for them too. But this was like 1984 or 85, so it wasn't GIJoe. Found the tank at a yardsale. |

Here's a mind changing thought, in 30 years (probably much much sooner) all of us joe collectors will seem strange and laughable. The heart of the joe collecting springs from the childhood love of the 12 inch in the 60's and 70's, or the 3 3/4 inch of the 80's and early 90's. When us two groups pass on, I just don't see the later generations having any kind of interest in joes that would result in collecting in adulthood.
But here's the good news, in the next couple decades, you could probably find a pimp daddy destro or whatever for 2 or 3 bucks on ebay.

I know I'm a minority here but as a child of the 80s that grew up with the 80s toys, I am one of the few out there with a big enthusiasm and passion for both the 3.75" and 12" GI Joe figures. Because of this, it's become a pretty big pet peeve of mine to go on forums of any types of GI Joe and find that each one feels it has to insult the other. As if one is inferior and the other is the absolute only way to play with GI Joe and it makes me feel a bit (if you'll pardon my Meme speak) "Forever alone" as I can see the charm and play value of both lines and am sad that so many people are just SO dead set in their way of thinking that they can't appreciate the value of it all.
Everyone is entitled to an opinion and no one has to like every single aspect of the hobby. It seems there is a huge segment of the fandom that feels "If you don't feel as I do, you're a jerk!" and feels the need to say so. It's everywhere too, it's not a healthy debate but polarisation for some reason. I hear it in podcasts, see it in forums, ect, ect. It's the appolgists vs. the negitive nancy's and neither side is right and both sides are driving even the most hard core fan out of the door. |

I like the Combat Heroes, Mighty Muggz and Sigma 6.
Seriously, to me those lines rule 'cause they're kid-friendly for when I actually play GI Joes with my four year old. I gave everything I had from those lines to her, and it was the best thing I ever did with my ARAH-style toys. |

I see more disdain between ME and ARAH collectors than I do 12" and 3.75".
I love all aspects if Joedom, even though I had made a conscious decision a few years ago to primarily focus on ARAH. It is frustrating to see people hating on one of those lines in particular, as well as hypocritical since I bet most of the ARAH haters collected it at one time. Everyone has their own opinions and that is great because it allows for a dynamic discussion board, but its sad when some mistakes being a dick with being opinionated.

I love the 12 inch scale and in the late 90s and early 2000s it was all the rage thanks to 21st century toys they were everyting a 12" joe should be..
there were no joes to be found at that time other than random repaints. The only reason I am not a fan of 12" joes is simple they are awful 21st century was a small company and put out high quality and detail ed toys only thing that could really match them is the sideshow/hot toys joes we see now for $100 + 12' joes have ONE head sculpt and are pretty generic the only times they try to make them different they are cartoons P.S. I want good 12" joes But don't want to pay 100-200 dollars for them. Last edited by helrod; 03-19-2013 at 05:03 AM.. |
