Ah man, Pyramid of darkness was the bomb! Yeah the show was geared for us kiddies back in the day but it was still great. i have seasons 1 (full) and season 2 pt1 and they are cool toons........ even with the cheese that dwells within the episodes.

...with my nephews (they're 5, 7, and 9 respectively).
Barefoot ninjas on ice? Snake-Eyes breakdancing and wearing a dress? Lady Jaye and Flint blushing in an under-lava bubble? THIS IS NOT THE JOE I REMEMBER!!! ...but it is! It's just been so long since I've watched the animated series, I forgot how ridiculous it was. My wife was cracking up going "This used to be your favorite show, honey?". The best part though - the boys LOVED it. Did you even watch "The Mass Device" or "Arise, Serpentor, Arise!" before posting this diatribe? "Cobra Stops The World" is the best episode in the entire GI Joe cartoon show history. You get full exposure to Cobra's plan to destroy the world's oil market, and GI Joe responds by finding their secret base and destroying it. How about "Flint's Vacation?" Another great episode where Cobra uses mind control to hypnotize an entire town of Americans. This is my favorite episode with Breaker as he finally leaves the Joe communications center to electronically disrupt Cobra's signal, and free the people. Ace: "Are you sure Breaker wants this dart-board flown to the Cobra base?" Deep Six: "Yeah!" Ace: "You know, sometimes I really think that guy is out to lunch." Deep Six: "No, he usually eats at headquarters." Hahahahahaha!!!! "Eau De Cobra" is a really funny episode that reveals Destro's jealousy of men (including Flint) who flirt with the Baroness. My favorite one-liner in the entire Joe show is said by Deep Six in this episode. Flint is on board a yacht speaking to Deep Six who is down below in the SHARC. Flint mentions that he will continue to monitor things on the yacht, and Deep Six radios back, "Roger, Flint. Better down here, than up there." I always have this awesome one-liner from Deep Six in mind every single time I prepare for a SCUBA trip. It's because I agree completely with Deep Six. It is so much better down there than up here!!!! Did you even watch these episodes? Last edited by Bravestarr; 10-18-2008 at 01:17 AM.. |

My wife was diggin the part where Destro and the Baroness were making out, they trying to deny it... at first she thought it was a parody from youtube until I told her that was in the cartoon way back then... she says... "They can show that in the cartoon?"
Hahaha

Um... woah, dude... it wasn't a diatribe. Relax. I went back and edited my post so you can calm down and get the gist of what I was trying to say. Did you even read my post before posting your diatribe? What I said was it was corny as all get out, but that the little boys (intended audience) LOVED it. EDIT:That's what I meant. I couldn't help but laugh at it. Neither could my wife. I didn't lose any love for the 'toon, I enjoyed myself immensely. I just didn't remember how entirely goofy it was!

I was thinking of making a similar post about not just 'Pyramid' but the DVD's in general. Yes, they are some of the corniest, cheesiest cartoons I have ever seen and that is what makes them absolutely excellent. As a kid I recall thinking this was a show for older kids. Military anything was for older kids when I was a boy. I thought Thundercats was more on my level. I loved the show as a kid, it was my favorite, but I figured anything to do with "real" life had to be a more mature show. Now I see the error in my very young ways.
I love these DVD's and can't wait for the next wave with the "best of" shows included. These truly take me back and I can't wait to share them with my kids. As far as I'm concerned, Hasbro has a nostalgic hit on their hands with boththese figures and the DVD's. Keeo it up Hasbro, this big kid will keep buying so long as you keep making. |

I traded for a set of the 'toons a while back and I have to admit, it took a bit for me to remember and accept all the goofiness. I do love it for what it was though.

Deep Six, Breaker, Wet Suit, Ace and Flint have some of the best roles on the show. I especially find the Alpine and Bazooka shenanigans funny, but you already knew that from the POD series. Have you seen "The Viper?" Barbecue is great in that one. |

I think, the Pyramid of Darkness is the worst of the movie/5 part episodes but I still love watching it and all the rest of the GI Joe movies and episodes.
I think it holds up rather well. For a show that was made for kids I still have a lot of fun watching now at 34 years old. And what’s even more important is that my 4 year old loves watching it with me and playing GI Joe together. On that note I can't wait for the new "made for grownups" cartoon to come out. That’s going to be awesome! Just wish it wasn't made into little 5 part episodes. I would love to see a new GI Joe cartoon for kids. If done right of coarse. |
