i was at work today and thinkin bout gi joe as i always do and i couldnt help but think how awesome it would be if someone developed a GI Joe Vs. Cobra Real time strategy. could you imagine building a division of Maulers and squads of steel brigade and assaulting a Cobra compound filled with hiss tanks and alley vipers
i see it all in my head and think it would be great. i also see an expansion pack that would add the dreadnocks and the oktober guard. there are so many possibilties with gi joe i think it would be the best game with the right developer. i hope someone important reads this cause i know i would buy it and run my electric bill playing it. good idea or am i just too big a fan of gi joe and rts games |

I'd love to see a Joe vs Cobra RTS, too, though there would be some obstacles to making one. It would have to embrace the concepts of the Greenshirts and/or Steel Brigade so that the Joes could be a faction, but only a dozen or so of the most prominent Joes (and Cobras) could be "hero" units. The Joes could be a little more hero-centric, but no way there could be anything approaching a full roster.
The other problem is that most RTS developers are going all-in on competitive multiplayer these days, with the kind of epic story-driven campaigns being reduced to sort of glorified tutorial. Devs have somehow gotten it into their heads that RTs is not a good medium for telling a story (never mind that the Warcraft storyverse was all RTS-driven for its first decade). I wouldn't be too interested in a Joe RTS that didn't include separate single player campaigns for both Joe and Cobra, and I don't know if many game developers would attempt such a product. Maybe someone could mod one of the Command & Conquer games, which features a lot of the same kind of tech as the Joeverse, though I think someone may have attempted one a few years back only to get a cease and desist demand from Hasbro. |

I'd like to see something like this done. A tactical shooter would be even better (highlighting individual specialist Joes). I'm thinking along the lines of Rainbow Six or Ghost Recon franchises.
For something like a large unit RTS, playing the bad guys would be most fun anyway - sending a Hiss Squadron in to take over a city block by block, with Alley Vipers leading regular Vipers or Blueshirts through buildings and FANG IIs overhead giving top cover. |

The perfect Joe game would be a combination of RTS, FPS/3rd Person and vehicle.
You could have a couple large scale RTS battles and alot of FPS or 3rd Person missions and throw in a couple of vehicle levels where have to drive a VAMP, SnowCAT or Mauler around. I think doing a Joe game without all 3 elements would be doing a disservice to the brand. If could lose any element and still make a great Joe game, it would be the RTS element. G.I. Joe has never been about large-scale battles between large armies. It was about small mission teams taking on a larger opposing force.

well, a great , and innovative rts was "star wars empire at war" , The plot of star wars was also focused on small groups taking on a larger force, however it was adapted into a great rts, using the main characters as hero units. On the same subject, Dune was the first franchise to be adapted to rts. Dune the books and films were not focused on grand battles, but rather only a handful of characters, but again, translated into a great and popular rts.
G.i Joe is a militarily themed franchise. Its actually a baffling mystery to me that a G.I Joe rts didn't spring up at the same time, and along side Dune, and C&C , as one of the early turn of the century rts titles. The only joe games i have seen are way older shooters , and side scrollers. What happened to Joe games?? Why aren't there tons more of them? I googled G.I Joe themed rts games, after i had a weird dream about one. I was shocked, and surprised to see there are none. Think about all the grown folk like me, who loved joe toys as a yungun , and might want virtual versions of them on their computers for nostalgia stake. Rts is becoming less popular, agreed, especially as a single player experience, however, i find it hard to imagine a G.I Joe rts officially sanctioned as not being hugely popular. |

I think RTS is a bit too big for GI Joe, how about a RTT or Tactical Squad Game instead? Just like XCOM or Jagged Alliance?

I was thinking of a GIJoe game with Star Wars Battle Front 2/LOTR Conquest type of gameplay. That might work better because in an RTS perspective, main Joe/Cobra characters would be hero units, meaning limited charaters.

Holy shit!!!!! I am sorry, its just i wrote an 8 paragraph post describing, in depth, the metrics of a GIJOE grand strategy/RTS hybrid, and i was timed out, and tried to post, now its gone. It was a waste of time anyway, but not having any of that makes it a waste within a waste. Anyway........ Whatever kind of game it is, i want something that actually reflects the GIJOE universe, and not just a game with a GIJOE skin, which is kind of what SWEAW is to star wars if you really think about it. Unlike star wars, the GIJOE franchise has geopolitical elements in the story lines, that can make a grand strategy/ RTS hybrid a good fit with the right kind of tweaks of course. I can't manage to completely rewrite my lost ramblings, but imagine: US & them: cold war, nobunagas ambition 2, and C&C meeting in the middle.
