Needham Brokerage upgraded Hasbro from "hold" to "buy" on the prospect that GI Joe and Transformers 2 toy lines would be big sellers. Assuming they mean this Christmas. Despite the current state of the economy?
This was a spotlight analysis on tonight's Nightly Business Report. Crazy to hear Paul Kangas actually say "GI Joe" on TV. I worry though that business minds are out of touch with the consumer. I suppose that's commonplace, as folks who trade stocks during the day are not very likely to be action figure collectors by night. Based on this report, though, Hasbro has REALLY high hopes for their upcoming line of movie-related figures (assuming that's what they would be publicizing, since they've pretty much covered all the angles in terms of ARAH-based releases). Regardless of whether or not these predictions materalize, it was good to see Hasbro up on a day where the vast majority of other holdings posted a loss. On a side note, if you were playing the market wisely, you would have bought Hasbro in January as their new lines were ramping up and proving profitable in the post-Christmas rush, and sold last month just before the market tanked. If anyone actually pulled this off, please PM me because I'd like to tap into your absolute clairvoyant genius. : P I just gotta look on the bright side (or turn a blind eye) considering my retirement accounts have posted a 40% loss YTD. Another interesting note, Target posted 3% loss in profits, while Walmart posted a 5% increase in sales for the quarter. In a very narrow perspective, think of how Target has just raised their prices on Joes... with that in mind, those numbers don't surprise me. If Walmart sticks it out and avoids this most recent price hike... well needless to say, I think I know who will get my business. $.02 the blonde weasel Last edited by blndweasel; 10-08-2008 at 09:57 PM.. |

Hasbro sounds very confident. No wonder they jacked their price a buck. AS for Target, well I think I know who has my business...

Talk about instant karma in action. While Wal-Mart is a crap-shoot for availability, at least their employees don't tell lies to the customers as Target has. Target also raised their prices to 7.99 first, and they have been notoriously rude to fellow Hisstank.com members in the past (as indicated from some of the boards here). And the final reason why I am glad that Target had losses? They reneged on a coupon deal. I have never, ever heard of a company telling the customer to go pound sand after the customer presents a perfectly valid coupon offer. Never, ever ever have I heard of such behavior from a company. Instant Karma to you, Target! Now that I have my Rattlers, I don't think I will buy anything from you!!! (Until the next cool exclusive comes out, anyway) |

Target's problem is they are having losses (write-offs) from their "Red Card" and the fact that their focus on Clothing and Furniture is generating weak sales. |

It's hard right now cause they keep telling everyone NOT to panic and that invokes a reason TO panic. How can you trust ANYTHING they are saying when they allowed us to get to this point.
Did you hear about the AIG execs that blew over $400,000 at a psa in LA shortly after the buyout approval? |
