I urge Hasbro to consider ending their relationship with the GI Joe Collector's Club, and creating a new in-house collector-oriented club that is more accessible and kid-friendly (with a lower price point and the opportunity to be cross-promoted with retail/main line GI Joe product) that also would be subject to greater brand scrutiny. GI Joe needs to uphold the image of being "A Real American Hero" for both old collector's and newer, younger fans and enthusiasts.
The club products are exclusives, period. If you're not willing to pay for them, then you don't really want them. Do you go to the Con? The exclusives are reasonably priced there for the amount produced. As to the golden ticket, yes three times the number of exclusives was unfortunate. Especially considering the regular attendees only got one. I say two times the exclusives for a golden ticket is understandable for the additional investment. Also especially since the got early shopping Thursday and Friday. Other than that, the club items are for the more hardcore collectors. I don't want Hasbro or the club catering to these wait for clearance/ross crowd. If you're willing to support the club, great. If not, a lot of us have had great experiences with the club and the cons. We put our money where our mouths are, do you? This credit card thing sucks, I got hit too. But, I live in the real world. It happens, we try to fix it and support our hobby and our fandom in the process. The fact is, the club responded poorly. But, they have responded. Let us politely give our opinions on how to resolve this. Finger-pointing and name calling needs to stop. The club tries to provide a great service for what they are given to a bunch of people that lately, just are rude and unreasonable. Please note, I'm talking about the fair-weather fans, not the people that have been members for some time and have a relationship with these people. Yes. I don't want the Club to go away or be punished. How is that going to help this hobby? I'm thankful we've got a club to call our own.

There's some really ignorant statements about the Club, what they are, how they work, and the issues about the license they have with Hasbro. Maybe those who are so desperate to defend the Club, and feel threatened by it's demise should know, Hasbro has switched things up before. Brian Savage and Fun Publications is not the first to offer Joe and Transformers cons, clubs or exclusives and he won't be the last. Other people have had their license revoked.
It may just be time for a change, even without all the issues, nothing really stays the same forever.

The Club is giving instructions on how to replace credit cards and set up credit monitoring because some people do not even know they should do it or even how to do it themselves. The Club is trying to look out and help those people who need that information. They are trying to survive this disaster and help others through it too.

What I don't understand is this blind following of what sounds to me to be a club representing a major retailer's product in a possible unsavory way. Hasbro should up hold any club that is selling products they own the rights to high standards and if they are not met they need to find another company/club to do so. I for one think that Hasbro needs to protect their property/assets and if the club isn't willing or isn't capable of doing so they need to be shut down. Do I think the club, their conventions and exclusives are a great thing? Of course I do, I am not arguing that fact and I don't think anyone here criticizing the current club is either, but if these people can't do it right then they need to go.

I believe what I saw was someone claiming that they would allow scalpers and the like to pay additional fees to cut lines to get to con exclusives early before the general public in line and allow them to purchase bulk amounts. I for one have no knowledge if any of that is true but I did read it today. |
