The club is considered to be a fan service and is supposed to exist to bring fans together in common interests.
Fun Pub has been forced to do several things by Hasbro in the past because it reflected poorly on Hasbro itself (one of the big ones was opening up the forums to non-paying public which was a huge issue for almsot a year until Hasbro said they didn't like the elitist behavoir of having to pay to have a say in the way the club was run). It's supposed to be by the fans for the fans but truth is Hasbro doesn't pay too much attention to it, and at this point they need to know how much the club reflects badly on them. There are many in the world who actually think the club IS Hasbro. Hasbro needs to be made aware, Fun Pub won't be transparent on such issues (the never are). Oh and let's not forget the issue, not that hacking, but the way they have responded to it (when they finally did that is). |

Thanks for speaking up. Someone needs to. The way they instruct you to replace your credit card like it's not a big deal just adds insult to injury.
Fun Pub needs to be replaced...this is a movie year after all! |

If you don't want to purchase from companies who have let their customers be victimized by cc fraud, that is fine. Don't sign up for the GIJCC. Then go and check out any other companies you deal with that have had this happen and quit those, too. You won't end up with too many companies left for you to purchase stuff from on the net. Quote:

Precisely. It has happened to Paypal no less than 3 times. I still use them religiously to pay for most everything I buy from the Tank or on ebay. I bet you do, too.

Dude, it's a private club, just don't join or start your own collector's club.
We all know that there is abounding incompetence over at FunPub and they seem to fuck up almost every project they set out on but they are the only ones doing it so they can continue to be as shitty as they like until someone offer some competition. When you say they are hurting the brand you are not really telling the whole story. The Club has done so much to promote this brand it's silly to compare the harm to the good they have done. I agree 100% I am tired of this subject and all the negativity. I mean give me a damn break people cancel your card & get a new one issued and move on, I did it and it took 5-10 minutes. What the hell is wrong with all these angry, negative, unhappy people?

Hello Everyone,
I wrote an email to Hasbro today detailing my concerns about why the Collector's Club is hurting the GI Joe brand. It's my hope that they are monitoring the situation, and will consider ending their relationship with the GIJCC and create a new, in-house club more like MattyCollector. The full letter follows. Please read and let me know what you think! You can also contact Hasbro's customer service department and share your own thoughts about the situation. -Greg February 27, 2012 To Whom it May Concern: I am writing to express my serious concerns with the way the GI Joe Collector's Club (Fun Publications, Inc.) is harming the GI Joe brand through its mismanagement of its collector-oriented products. It recently became known that the club, though both its GI Joe and Transformers related business activities, subjected customers to widespread and costly credit card fraud through what appears to be a combination of poor security protocols, and a catastrophically inept response to said security issues. The slow-to-respond, sloppy, unprofessional and frankly snide email communications and statements issued by the club in the wake of this has tarnished the GI Joe brand, in my opinion. They have driven away potential subscribers for their proposed figure subscription service, and may be inviting legal action by responding to this situation with what appears to be an ignorance of proper counsel. They've made statements in their communications that could certainly be problematic. There have also been accusations of inappropriate transactions involving preferential treatment of "toy scalpers" in exchange for cash at convention appearances. These incidents are unsubstantiated but have been subject for discussion on collector's boards such as HissTank.com - G.I. Joe Toy and Movie News and Discussion. These accusations also hurt the brand, and at the minimum, give pause as to whether the GI Joe Collector's Club is representing the brand in a professional, ethical manner. These problems, coupled with the high price points for club items, and membership structure, is not the way GI Joe should be represented. Its a positive, fun and imaginative toy line with a rich history, and an continuing relevance, especially with the new film "GI Joe: Retaliation" coming this summer. I urge Hasbro to consider ending their relationship with the GI Joe Collector's Club, and creating a new in-house collector-oriented club that is more accessible and kid-friendly (with a lower price point and the opportunity to be cross-promoted with retail/main line GI Joe product) that also would be subject to greater brand scrutiny. GI Joe needs to uphold the image of being "A Real American Hero" for both old collector's and newer, younger fans and enthusiasts. |

You tell them tough. It happens to people all the time these days. Credit cards have fraud protection, any time I get random charges on my cards, I call my cc company to get them removed and get a new card. Takes all of 15 minutes and I don't have to worry about any of the money someone else spent on my card.

[QUOTE}Are they? In your victimized mind it sounds like it, but I'm pretty sure there are still a ton of people just as interested as they were before.[/QUOTE} Interested sure, wanting to put themselves at risk (and not have anything done about it for a month) not so much. Quote:
How did you want it handled? They aren't going to have some magician get all of your CC info back from the thieves. They are trying to get us to be pro-active in protecting us from what might possibly come. I don't see what else they can do.

Yep.Take advantage of what's left of the free market while you can. The way the Club is going they'll be subsidized by your tax dollars very soon.

True, but I'm sure given the recent troubles someone with some start up capital and a solid business plan might be able to sway them. Given there aren't any unusual contractual obligations involving the license.

You do realize that the club helps put together Botcon and Joecon. I think your being overly sensitive. The good far outweighs the bad.
