This is the main reason I stay out of the commission business. It's going to be harder than hell to keep on task with life getting in the way. It sucks for the person that puts up the money, but the reality is marriage, family, debt, job, car, etc. is a lot more important. Heck, I have a hard time keeping straight the messages I'm getting from people about 3D prints let alone commission work.

I kinda think you've been called out...

I have been experiencing the very same thing for three to four months now, but I don't want to be a Fink and Rat on the customizer.
Said he would paint and assemble some custom action figure kits for me, we agreed on a price, I purchased the kits from a custom caster, they finally arrived, and the customizer won't respond to my emails or call me. I think that he's just waiting for me to grow frustrated with him and go away. Probably is a societal thing. He's so much younger than me, that I perceive his lack of communication and false offers to phone me as dishonorable conduct. He probably never sees it that way. So, you're not alone. I know exactly what you mean. |

Funny that someone doesn't want to name names, but playfully does so anyway It could be conceived as childish and that makes the whole piece about the age difference even more hilarious.
If you want that stuff done on your own timetable learn how to do it yourself. It's trial and error even for the most experienced customizers I reckon. I try some work now and then and some is great, some is mwah and most of it sucks donkey dung. It's fun to do though.

I try some work now and then and some is great, some is mwah and most of it sucks donkey dung. It's fun to do though. The first custom figure is already done. Did it myself. It turned out fair... but could have been better, and I was willing to pay money to have it done better, and to commission other figures as well. Oh well, that's just more money I save for something else now. Said customizer promised to REPAINT a figure for free which he originally created when the PAINT RUBBED OFF. Some parts of the figure were painted well, while others were not. When it was time to send it to the customizer, (insert crickets chirping sound effect here), no answer. Refuses to give an address to send it to, and will not discuss original offer to repaint figure. Go figure. So now I'm researching paints and options, thinking I'm better off repainting this figure myself. If I could send it to the customizer, would I ever see it again? Who knows? Anyways, I am in agreement with the OP. I didn't mean to derail this thread, so maybe we can steer it back on topic. |

there is simply no excuse for not proving a response by email. it takes seconds and goes a long way in conveying intent and meaning. i've fallen behind on things before myself but i've never left anyone in the dark. that is unacceptable, from either end. and i've had requests come and no follow through as well so the road goes both ways.
that being said, i've done a few jobs for tankers and every single one completed has been a good experience (not all leave feedback though). not all were done but with communication, no ill will. it either works or it doesn't but so long as both parties are talking, it's ok with me. i'm picky about taking comissions as i don't have time to do them generally and i'm very up front about that. i know what it's like to wait and wait and wait thus i generally don't take them. i'm very sorry to hear your having a hard time with the process. it's not easy for sure. it took me awhile to find someone to do a figure for me. we chat via email/pm so it's going great. i'm also not a needy client with lots of demands i put a lot of faith in the artist doing the work. if i didn't, i would be doing it myself. some advice, if i can offer some (in general, to all); always be upfront on expectations. it's so much better when both are on the same page. if not, your better off saying thank you but i'll continue looking. no harm in that and better for both parties. have a very clear understanding of what is wanted. don't hound the maker with requests or demands. make those up front or when asked. nothing worse than an indecisive comission where your guessing. it's ok to if things go wrong, just be upfront about it and communicate it in a timely manner. it's not unreasonable to ask for an email within a couple days if things change and the comission fails or cannot be completed. if that does happen, do not expect refund on materials already bought/used unless they are returned. don't expect the work to be a reimbursable either. i won't outlay money upfront unless i'm 100% confident in the person and most of the time, still not even then. i've been left holding the bag on stuff before and it sucks big time. at the same time, don't comply with additional requests for monies that are not agreed upon or substantiated to your satisfaction. you should not be entering into a money pit deal. i wouldn't and wouldn't expect anyone to do so with me. this is all common sense stuff that often gets overlooked in the name of trying to work with a fellow tanker, etc. i'm also very honest in my feedback but always respectful. i don't like leaving negative feedback but have had to do so at times. you don't have to be a prick in the process though as anyone is free to return the favor. charma can a b*$@&.
