I can anchor any hook to the ceiling, but it's a matter of appropriate string I need help with. Any ideas as to what is the ideal string/wire/thread to use when hanging jets?

I use fishing line. I bought 15 pound test I think, probably overkill but I have never had it break. I take one long piece and tie it into a loop. I dont tie a double knot, I hold the ends parallel and tie them simulaneously in a single knot.
This way with one loop I can adjust and change the direction and attack angles of my planes pretty easily. I also wrap part of the loop around strategic parts of each aircraft in case it slips out of balance it wont fall to the ground. Last edited by Python Viper; 02-14-2012 at 10:02 AM.. |

I use fishing line for my 1:18 helos, which will generally weigh more than anything Joe-wise other than maybe the Night Raven and NAC.

i too am a supporter of using fishing line i have clear 20lb test. I also use the "loop" method, i also will create a loop at both ends it really just depends on the vehicle i'm hanging
the most important thing regardless of what you use or how you use it is "multiple points of suspension" as a rule for myself regardless of the size there are always two points from which i hang everything (figures excluded usually) I suggest at least two for two important reasons redundancy position being naturally paranoid i always prepare for the "faulty line" breaking...and it happened once, the line didn't actually break but my knot did, the result...my rattler was nose diving over my son's bed. position - it's nearly impossible to get the exact pose you're wanting using just one suspension point. So using at least two will give you much more freedom in doing so as well as keep whatever it is you're hanging from spinning example - i hung a few trubble bubbles...and the damned things kept spinning out of formation. |

I dont have a problem with spinning. I thread my loop through the eyelet so it loops down around the front of the plane and down around the back. Depending on the balance of the plane I can do a lot of positioning with this set up. The eyelet determines the direction.

I started out using fishing line,
but one day I decided to use one of the thousands of clear plastic rubber bands I have amassed from being a toy collector, (I think they average at least two per figure) The loop makes it super easy .... and I feel like I'm kinda reusing something that would end up in the trash...

I used clear 10lb test tied with a uni-knot.
I have a PTE F/A-15, a Cobra Rattler, and a True Heroes Black Hawk all hanging from the ceiling in my son's room. They've been there for years with no problems. |

Fishing line works great. I used a 5 pound line to hang the Sky Striker and TRU F-22 in my son's room. I also did the loop method, anchored it in two point to the ceiling using drywall anchors (see below) and just cut off the excess.
