i have noticed that the moment anything gets mentioned on any forum, in our case here "the tank," prices tend to skyrocket. this has happened throughout all the genres of joe collecting i have noticed. Even online retailers are using many forums to gauge the market and run up prices and deplete inventories from the sources, the moment something goes viral on this site.
now i understand the laws of speculation and supply and demand, so please no half witted, gloom and doom explanations, trying to show off your brilliance, those of you know who you are.i have seen you on many threads waiting for the opportunity to pounce. now these forums may be great for manufacturers to listen to what the fandom is lusting for and sometimes it reacts with a win, other times it hits the mark completely. but are we hurting ourselves by laying out our collecting desires on forums like this??? leaving many of us unable to obtain our wants? Discuss....

I don't know...i think what is going to be popular seems to be pretty much common sense...There are certain figures in each wave that you know are going to be sought after, and others that you know aren't going to sell. Combine that with the fact taht as times goes on, some waves are more rare than others because of various reasons. Those with intimate knowledge of a toy line could predict which to put for higher prices (Such as a sought after Army builder, the Techno Viper)....

Most of the time when people post certain items.. they are doing a review or possibly trying to be helpful with links to said item at a cheap rate. Which of course turns into a pool of piranha and the items tends to hit a higher price tag than expected.. Then those of us fortunate enough to have connections on getting said item see dollar signs and lose our eagerness to help out a fellow collector at a decent price and instead inflate the price ourselves..which in turn causes the original seller or even E tailers that have said item to raise their prices.. Thus the vicious cycle of being an adult collector.
Basically.. like you said. Supply and Demand. the more rare a figure or item is.. the more people are going to want for it. Just look at any con exclusive or the Club's Dial Tone. The unreleased CS Scarlett.. or even this new JP figure that has surfaced in abundance lately.

People don't tend to talk about things that aren't in that high of a demand.
I think the correlation that you speak of is suspect. |

I posted this thread & after that the damned thing couldn't be found for a decent price. They were worthless, you'd be lucky if you could get $10 for one. Ever since I posted this thread all the sellers came out of the woodwork with stupid high BIN prices. And people started paying $50+ for it.
http://www.hisstank.com/forum/g-i-jo...ltra-rare.html Luckily I found one really cheap in a lot. It was filthy & I had to clean it up but now it's one of my favorite Star Brigade customs. I never got around to posting it, I need to go post it in the customs forum & on my blog tonight. Last edited by Steelgrave; 12-17-2011 at 08:02 PM.. |

I feared Zarana would go up in price with all the hype for the 7 packs. But then that could just happen because the 7 packs are coming out regardless of said hype.

Kneroh has single handedly inflated the Eco/Toxo subset market to astronomical prices with all of his amazing customs.
There could be something to this...
