Outside of Australia, I don't get the impression biker gangs are particularly topical now days, especially the madmax esc thing the dreads have going on.
So how would you want to see them updated to be current and/or have more kid appeal? I'd like to see them as gangsta. Might not go down well with everyone, and the changes would need to be extreme, but I could see fun being had with it. |

I'd tell you how they will be portrayed in the first of two upcoming Dreadnok films coming next summer from Focus Features, but of course due to contractual restraints, I cannot.
More info here though: http://www.focusfeatures/dreadnoksrising.

Might not go down well with everyone, and the changes would need to be extreme, but I could see fun being had with it. Gangsta? Mad Max and the Road Warrior are some of the best films ever made. Hmmmm there is an entire series called "Sons Of Anarchy" out right now. That's very topical. Bikers are the modern outlaws of the Old west or the Pirates of times long ago. The Dreadnoks play such an important part in GI Joe that changing them from what they are to Gangstas or whatever would be as dumb as making Snake Eyes be able to Fly and breath under water. The Dreadnoks are not just a group of nobodys. Each Dreadnok has his or her own story and they all do the mercinary dirty work that that either Cobra won't do or can't do. The last thing we need to do with a toy line is make them Gangstas to appeal to kids. Kids joining gangs and glorifying them is destroying lives and families all over the U.S. I'd much rather have thge Dreadnoks be exagerated unrealistic Mad Max style Bikers than promote the awful plague that gangs have done to kids. Gangsta lifestyles are not funny or cute and should never be presented to kids as a thing that is acceptable especialy in toys. I live in Florida and Bikers are all over the place. The Dreadnoks base themselves out of Florida so really they are very topical. Bikers for the most part in Florida raise money for charities and do big Bike rallys to pay respect to members of the military and ones who died in wars. GI Joe has Ninjas and Robots (BATS) and even Cobra Law weird stuff so Mad Max style Biker Gangs fit in great with all the other side groups. And finally teh Dreadnoks are an extention of ZARTAN. Zartan is such a complex and important character in GI Joe stories and the Dreadnoks are there to support his story and character. Hasbro has enough bad Ideas to f*%K up the Joe characters without this awful awful Gangsta crap. And they were overhauled and updated with the GI Joe Renegades Dreadnoks. They were modernized and I actually kind of liked them. If I came across too harsh I don't mean to. I just know first hand what this whole Gangsta life being soft pushed on to kids through music (Lil Wayne etc.), clothes, pop culture and sports has done to people and how it's destroyed communities and lives. Pure real Evil.
