scalpers are the scumbags that go and buy up stuff only to sell it.
they are the asshats that will go and bribe wal mart employees and then go and buy cases of toys to turn around and sell them for ludicrous profits.

I actually got lucky and should be getting the SDCC Cobra Commanders and Combat Heroes set from GI Joe Club if anybody wants the Combat Heroes (and maybe the Black CC) if somebody wants to buy or trade for them. Does this make me a scalper?

I got called a scalper because I sold some older 25th stuff and paid 32.00+ retail, and sold it for about $48.00.
People who use that term every other sentence should not be involved in any toy collecting hobby at all and probably should go outside and breathe some fresh air for once. |

I say if you take the time to drive around to all Wal-Marts, Targets, or whatever, and "Happen" upon a large mass of let's say..... B.A.T.S. and you buy them, then list them on ebay, you should be entitlted to some profit. After all, we are in tough times where gas is far from cheap. And ebay is fair because it boils down to the saying: "It's only worth what someone else is willing to pay for it" is this not correct? I am not saying I engage in nor do I condone these practices. I open my Joes and try to hoarde fiscally responsible. But it doesn't always work out that way. LOL.

Scalpers are people who are unscrupulous and determined to ruin yoru day. They take everything and leave behind bent cards and create buisness only for themselves. You know the saying "as easy as taking candy from a baby?" they wrote it, and they use LazEbay to make huge profit margins.
If they can not stay on top they will lie, cheat and steal their way there. If your a scalper you better not run into me, I carry a very very large a$$whooping stick for the day we do meet...you are on notice! THIS I COMMAND! |

This is a great topic, but also a very touchy one around sites like ours.
Scalping is a term that I used to only hear when it came to selling tickets to sporting events and concerts for more than face value. I remember this being highly illegal especially if done on or near the premises of the event venue. In the last few years most of these would be scalpers have been doing their business online. When it comes to tickets I believe each state has it's own law. I don't know if this still applies but I think here in New York you couldn't sell a ticket for more thatn 10% of it's face value to another New York resident. This was the rule on ebay but I'm not sure if it applied everywhere. I know that people got around this by offering the tickets for "free" with the purchase of a hat or keychain. So basically you had people purchasing a $5 keychain for $500 and getting a "free" pair of $100 tickets. Way to beat the system there. I feel that when it comes to toys maybe there should be some sort of sanctions as well. The problem with this is that if someone wants to pay $400 for a gold Pimp Daddy Destro that originally sold for $9.99 who is gonna stop them. I guess it should be their right if that's what they are willing to pay. I'm not willing to pay that though. As far as I'm concerned nothing has any real value. Things are only worth what they are to you, not for what they are selling for on ebay. If I had 2 gold PDD and I needed a silver one I would make a straight up trade. Sure I could put a gold one on ebay and probably buy a few silver ones with the money I make, but I'm way too lazy for that. I rather make a trade with a fellow fan so that we both end up happy. I'm in this for the happiness it brings me, not for the money I might be able to make. Sure I might have to sell everything one day if an emergency comes up, but all I ask is to get back what I paid. I don't look at this as an investment, I would just hope to break even. If I got less then so be it. Just like selling a car these items are now "used". As far as the scalper thing goes I really hate the people on ebay who are out there trying to get every last cent out of collectors. What I hate more than that are collectors who try to pull that on their fellow collectors. Now that's a far worse crime. With all that said it's great to have a site like this where people look out for one another because we are all here for the same thing. To share what we enjoy with fellow fans.
