I mostly stuck to the file cards but did borrow some elements from the comics and cartoon.
I never killed off any named characters, just faceless mooks and other redshirts. I kept the Snake Eyes/Storm Shadow rivalry from the comics but Storm Shadow was more evil, selling out the dojo to Cobra who razed it and killed the sensei. Once Storm Shadow version 2 came out he got a redemption arc. As far as romance goes Snake Eyes was with Scarlett, Flint with Lady Jaye, and Destro with Baroness. The usual stuff. Cover Girl, Zarana, and Jinx were professionals and did not cavort with male coworkers. Cobra-La was a big thing in my Joeverse but they were NOT the progenitor of Cobra. Cobra Commander ended up banished from his own organization by Serpentor. In desperation, he commissioned an expensive suit of battle armor and hired a bevy of freaks to help him take back Cobra. They were Big Boa, Croc Master, Crystal Ball, and Raptor. Crystal Ball, who was more Rasputin and less hypnotist in my world, put Cobra Commander onto Cobra-La whom he had read about in forbidden texts. Cobra Commander allies with Golobulus to help him usurp Serpentor but turns out Cobra-La has plans to destroy the world. Crazy ass Crystal Ball throws in with Cobra-La and they release the 'Destroyer,' the only Inhumanoid I owned - Tendril. Joe and Cobra team up to send the monster back to hell. Destro calls in his Iron Grenadiers and Hawk mobilizes Battle Force 2000 to help. |

My Joeverse is nuanced based upon my childhood interest in Joe toys, cartoons, & comics until around 1989-ish. There are a few characters beyond that time frame that I like, but not very many.
Basically, my 'Verse follows the X-Men/ROC movie ideas that sets the timeline in the "not so distant future." GIJoe is an exclusively American team that has been formed due to worldwide global attack by Cobra. The Joe team is commissioned as an eclectic, exclusive team under the executive leadership of Gen. Joe "GIJOE" Colton and Gen. Clayton "Hawk" Abernathy. The Field Commander for the team is Captain Duke (yes, Duke is a captain in my 'Verse). I have about 100 members to my team that is comprised of two primary "Squad" teams made up of: Squad Leaders - Flint & Torpedo Senior Sgt - Stalker & Falcon (yes Falcon is a 1st Sgt in my 'Verse) Machine Gunner - Rock-n-Roll & Roadblock Communications - Breaker & Dial-Tone Infantry - Grunt & Footloose Indirect Artillery - Short Fuse & Grand Slam Intelligence - Scarlett & Lady Jaye Infiltration - Snake Eyes & Helix Anti-Armor - Zap & Bazooka Marine Recon - Gung-Ho & Leatherneck Sniper - Low Light & Shooter Navy Diver - Wet Suit & Deep Six Naval Special Warfare - Shipwreck & Top Side Ranger - Beach Head & Mayday Grenadier - Heavy Duty & Dozer (custom character) K9 - Mutt&Junkyard & Law&Order Recon - Ambush & Sneak Peak Tracker - Outback & Spirit EOD - Tripwire & Tunnel Rat HALO - Ripcord & Crazy Legs Infantry Special Weapons - Flash & Blowtorch SWAT - Quick Kick & Shockwave Hostile Environments - Barbeque & Airtight Interrogation - Psyche-Out & Chuckles Computer Specialist - Mainframe & Bombstrike Medic - Doc & Lifeline Basically you could form two squads of equal functioning members. Then there are specialty teams and/or support groups: Special Environments - Dusty, Alpine, Recondo, Snow Job, Iceberg, Frostbite Aviation - Ace & Slipstream, Wild Bill & Lift Ticket, Airborne & Freestyle, Fast Draw & Repeater (SMA - Tomahawk gunners) Armor/Transportation - Steeler, Cover Girl & Rampage, Thunder & Toll Booth, Clutch & Crankcase Maritime - Keel Haul & Cutter Then I have other "support staff" (Green Shirts). Cobra, in my 'Verse, is like a secrete society, terrorist organization that has been around for a 1000+ years working behind the scenes (kind of like Hydra), where the Baroness was kind of "born into the business." Again, my interests only extend to about 1989 characters. So the main characters in my Cobra organization are: Cobra Commander, Baroness, Destro (MARS), Tomax/Xamot, Dr. Mindbender, Major Bludd, Firefly, Storm Shadow, Wild Weasel, Scrap-Iron, & Copperhead. I prefer the "blue shirt" look of Cobra troops, but love the "Viper" moniker. So, every Cobra specialty is some kind of "Viper" (Air-Viper, Tele-Viper, Medi-Viper, etc.) except for the Cobra Navy which are Eels, Lamprey, and Snow Serpents and the Crimson Guard The Dreadnoks are subgroup employed by Cobra led by Zartan and his "lieutenant" is Buzzer. Other Dreadnoks include Monkey Wrench, Ripper, Road Pig, Thrasher, Torch, Zandar, & Zarana. I've actually spent quite a bit of geek time working out ranks, specialties, etc. I hope one day (maybe after completing my PhD) to get back into photonovel/dio-stories to make a dio-comic I've had working on the back burner for a number of years - it's kind of a bucket list goal. The basic premise of the story is that there is a new Cobra Commander who has decided that after years of working in the shadows behind the scenes, it's time for Cobra to publicly strike. They launch terror attacks on several major countries such as England, France, Egypt, & Israel. The two notable countries not attacked are the US and Russia, which makes the rest of the world suspect them as the source of the attacks. Both the US and Russia form specialists groups (GIJoe & Oktober Guard) to uncover the truth and defeat Cobra. Joe Colton, who previously lead The Adventure Team, is commissioned to form a new specialist group GIJoe. Colton enlists the help of a recently promoted BG "Hawk." Colton recommends both Duke and Flint to the team, who have a (bad?) history together. Colton has a couple of other suggestions, including Snake Eyes, but otherwise Hawk, Duke, and Flint form the team. Sgt. Slaughter is brought in for special training, but is not an official member of the team. Slaughter does have his own subgroup Slaughters Marauders, who also are not official Joe members. If you've seen my customs on my blog, then you've probably already read some of my thoughts on the Oktober Guard (I'm a huge fan of the OGs), but the OG are the 5 original members plus Dragonsky, Big Bear, and Sgt. Misha except I've combined certain OG characters using "code names." So "Red Star" is Col. Brekhov; "Vorona" is Daina; and Misha has the code name "Ruslan." The OGs in my 'Verse are not as dumb and clumsy as they were presented in the old cartoons and comics. Jason

Nice throwback thread here.
Like many others, I have created my own Joeverse to justify the existence of a Joe Team in the modern era / slightly in the future. The Joes are based on the "Joint Task Force" model so I can allow both American and some International members. The NCTC is a real place. I use to live in Tysons Corner. Cobra is a combination of a large multi-national conglomerate (The ARBCO Group) and the largest Private Military Company in the world (Cobra Security Services). They use terror and chaos behind the scenes to influence world events and make boatloads of money. JOINT TASK FORCE 118 ? ?GI JOE? The National Counterterrorism Center (NCTC) was established by Presidential Executive Order 13354 in August of 2004. The NCTC serves as the primary organization in the U.S. government for integrating and analyzing all intelligence pertaining to terrorism possessed or acquired by the U.S. government including the CIA, FBI, NSA, Department of Defense and multiple other agencies. Its purpose is to provide the integration, dissemination, and use of intelligence collected by multiple agencies to serve as the central and shared knowledge bank on terrorism information and provide all-source intelligence to counterterrorism activities. This organization answers directly to the President of the United States and the National Security Council. In 2018, retired General Joseph Colton is named the new director of the NCTC. Due to delays in actionable intelligence developed by the center being executed through traditional military channels, he requested the creation of a quick reaction force to respond to immediate threats discovered by the center. After many successes, what started as a twelve man, ODA Special Forces group has now grown into Joint Task Force 118, a covert operational arm of the NCTC. It is a Joint Task Force with members recruited from U.S. military forces including the U.S. Army's Combat Applications Group (Delta Force), Navy SEAL DEVGRU operators (Seal Team Six), Green Berets, Army Rangers, Marines, USAF 24th Special Tactics Squadron, the Army's 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (Night Stalkers) and other military units. The CIA's Special Activities Division, FBI agents and other government personnel are also tasked to support the unit. On occasion for certain missions, operators from Coalition nations (particularly Canadian, British, Australian and Polish operators) augment the task force and provide direct and indirect operational assistance. This classified Task Force is designed to be autonomous and function outside of the purview of Joint Special Operations Command (JSOC). The unit is capable of providing an immediate rapid deployment force to assess and if necessary, neutralize threats discovered by the center. Although officially known as Joint Task Force 118, the name is continuously changed in order to provide operational security. Team members of the unit now collectively refer to themselves as the ?G.I. Joes? after General Colton. The unit conducts covert operations that include the collection of intelligence on both foreign and domestic soil, direct action missions and high threat military or intelligence operations in which the U.S. government does not wish to be overtly associated. When working in a joint theater with other military units, the group is referred to as Other Coalition Force (OCF). While the NCTC is located in Tysons Corner, Virginia, the main headquarters for Joint Task Force 118 is located at the Mt. Weather Command Facility located in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia. The classified site doubles as an Emergency Operations Facility for continuation of government from Washington, DC and features a large underground facility that can house and support task force members and their equipment. The unit also operates at a secondary overseas HQ located Incirlik Air base in Turkey. The team has smaller forward operating bases and safe houses all over the globe. From these locations, a Task Force AFO recon team can deploy anywhere in the world in 24 hours or less. These units can also be backed up by one of the Assault or Support units within 36 hours of a given order. Mission Update: After a major terrorism incident - the task force's current operational focus is the gathering of intelligence on the network of relationships linking established corporate entities to conventional weapons proliferation, terrorism, and state and/or state-sponsored acts of terrorism in the United States and abroad. The unit is evaluating evidence of certain private military contractors and arms manufacturers suspected of directly or indirectly providing training and materiel to militant organizations, international terrorist groups, and state sponsors of terrorism. |

The only fully developed part of my JOEverse is COBRA Intelligence and it's loosely based on U.S. Intelligence Community.
THE BARONESS In my JOEverse the Baroness is COBRA's intelligence chief and her duties are the same as the U.S. Director of Intelligence. The Baroness overseas and approves of all COBRA's intelligence operations and the agents who are assigned to those assignments. She also approves of funding, the allocation of resources, she gives final approval to the budget and the finalized draft of the COBRA Commander's daily brief. Stasi is also the Crimson twins commanding officer, but she doesn't micromanage the Crimson Guard though she's fully aware of SieGie activities she allows the twins to function with a certain degree of autonomy. THE NIGHT CREEPER LEADER The Night Creeper Leader is the operations chief of the COBRA Command Intelligence divison and runs the day-to-day operations of COBRA Intelligence. He'll make assignments and identify things that COBRA needs to get more information on in addition to crunching the numbers to see how much a particular assignment will cost. He'll compile the briefs that are put together by Night Creeper analysts and together with the Baroness formulate the Commander's daily brief. The NCL is one of two people, (including himself,) that knows what the Crimson Guard's true mission is. Outside of C.C., the Baroness, the twins, COBRA High Command, and Destro, (Stasi and Destro are in relationship and couples talk,) everybody else in COBRA thinks the SieGies are nothing more the Commander's security detail. The NCL makes promotions which the Baroness approves and he recommends COBRA, (Night Creeper Officers,) to begin SieGie training at the Springfield Genius Academy. The CRIMSON GUARD COMMANDERS Tomax deals with the running and oversees the Crimson Guard operating in the private sector of while Xamot deals with the ones operating in the public sector. The Crimson Guard are either in the seats or power, (i.e. C level officers in corporations, upper management, senior positions on a politician's staff, or they're in a position to influence public policy (the language in bills or goverment regulations,) a corporation's operating procedures or policies. Stasi, Tomax and Xamot also go over the list of candidates of Crimson Guard cadets that will be submitted to COBRA Commander for his approval. This is how I utilize the SieGies. A SieGie will be assigned to a think tank like the Federalist Society (who recommends judges to the federal bench.) The SieGie will recommend another SieGie to a federal judgeship. A SieGie who is a lawyer will be positioned to be clerk with with an appellate judge. Once in this position when the opportunity arises the SieGie will put language in the judge's decision that could be useful to COBRA at a later date. A SieGie who's in media, (i.e. managing editor at a newspaper,) will have to ability to run stories that are beneficial to COBRA, bury and/or kill stories that would be detrimental to COBRA or run or kill stories that would be detrimental to COBRA's enemies and adversaries. As I mentioned in How Does COBRA Make Money? https://www.hisstank.com/forum/g-i-j...ml#post5706411 A SieGie in a governmental agency like the F.D.A. can fast track E.E. products to market or hinder an E.E. competitor's to market by tying it up in red tape. A SieGie at the Patent and Trademark office can "lose," an E.E. competitor's paperwork. In the evident an COBRA operative is arrested and has to go to trial a SieGie assigned to the local D.A.'s or U.S. Attorney's office, (and their global equivalent,) will be assigned the case and will either fail to get an indictment or fucked up at trial so the operative can beat the case on appeal. If need be a Crimson Guard that is a judge will be assigned the case and he'll make rulings beneficial to COBRA depending on if the COBRA needs a conviction at trial or an acquittal. What makes the Crimson Guard truly dangerous is the insidious nature in which they work. They're moles in every sense of word. When their machinations are found out the damage has been done and the SieGie has either went to another job, he's retired from his cover job or assigned to be a part of Commander's garrison. The Crimson Guard are the commanding officers of the of the Night Creepers in their sector and the Siegies compile relevant intel that is sent to SieGie analysts who then compile a brief for the twins and the Baroness. The Night Creeper officer may work directly with a SieGie, (but often times they don't.) Also, the Night Creeper Officer doesn't that the SieGie is in the Crimson Guard, they just think the SieGie is a higher ranking Night Creeper. The Crimson Guard's training include an in depth analysis of Robert Green's The 48 Laws of Power, The Art of Seduction, the Art of War, Think and Grow Rich and How to Win Friends and Influence People. Also, included in the SieGie training are four segments on sexual manipulation where SieGie cadets are taught kegels (and they're encouraged to practice the kegels on their own time,) and in class instruction from pimps and prostitutes. I've modeled Entensive Enterprises after the real life Carlyle Group, (which is a private equity firm.) Just as former President George H.W. Bush and former British Prime Minister John Major sat on the board of the Carlyle Group, Extensive Enterprises also has former heads of state on it's board. It needs to be noted that while he was a board member of the Caryle Group President Bush continue to receive his daily intelligence brief and this how COBRA gets a lot of it's intel, directly from the source and this how COBRA stays a step ahead of the JOEs. It's not that these former heads of state are COBRA agents, it's quite the contrary they're sharing the intel in hopes that they'll make money and strengthen their stock profolios. The RED NINJAS Unofficially known throughout COBRA Command as the "Commander's Hittas," the Red Ninjas are COBRA's equivalent to the CIA's Special Operations Group. The Commander utilizes these COBRA operatives in operations that he doesn't want COBRA directly tied to but he doesn't want to outsource to the Z family, (Zartan and 'em aren't cheap,) These are also the operatives that perform assassinations. Vypra is the commanding officer of the Red Ninjas. I mentioned earlier that in my JOEverse there's two people outside of COBRA High Command and Destro who know what the Crimson Guard's true missionn is. Those two people are the NCL and other being Vypra. In my JOEverse the NCL and Vpyra are in a relationship, (and as with Stasi and Destro,) couples talk and the NCL likes to run his mouth, (either bragging or venting,) and truth be told there's things about COBRA and SieGie intel operations that Vypra shouldn't know. If C.C., the Baroness, or the twins knew that Vypra had an extensive knowledge of COBRA intelligence ops they would both be killed. Though Destro is privy to certain sensitive information the Baroness doesn't go into great detail about it whereas the NCL is tellin' Vypra all of the business. The NIGHT CREEPERS The Nights Creepers are the field agents and analysts in the COBRA Command intelligence community. They're the ones who do the actual spying, identify possible double agents, and find possible weakness in targets that can be exploited for sabotage. The Night Creepers are trained in ninjitsu, (as well as modern forms of espionage,) and martial arts, (i.e. Far Eastern fighting systems as well as Krav Maga.) The Night Creeper candidates can either apply to join COBRA intelligence or they're recommended by their superior officers. Their training includes an overview of Robert Green's [i]The 48 Laws of Power, The Art of Seduction, the Art of War, Think and Grow Rich and How to Win Friends and Influence People. The "Z," Family For operations with a high degree of difficulty, a high probability of getting caught, and where COBRA Commander wants absolutely no connection to COBRA Command he'll outsource these assignments to Zartan, Zarana, and Zandar. These assignments are usually at a minimum six months. The Commander will also utilize the "Z," family to cross reference and confirm intel in addition to making sure COBRA intelligence operatives and those working with COBRA are still playing the "home team." The "Z," family will sometimes work with the Red Ninjas and Zandar will do a dry run on Firefly's assignments by confirming the security patrols, making sure keys and access codes are functional, and targs where it's supposed to be.
