I hope this isn't considered off-topic, but I think it is on topic because it is a serious question that has to do with factual sightings vs. unsubstantiated rumors.
What's the deal with the pessimism on this board? It's the only thing that bugs me about Hisstank. Everyone here seems to be a pessimist. You can guarantee that whenever someone posts a negative rumor that 20 pages of whining will commence. Yet if someone posts a positive fact, like a new wave being sighted, they will get flamed because "it didn't happen unless there are pictures." So why don't we demand the same from those who post these baseless rumors? The Target Exclusives thread is the perfect example of this. Someone posts that these are web exclusives, everyone believes it. Someone posts that Target.com won't restock despite their email saying more are coming in November, everyone believes it. Someone posts they bought them in stores, with pictures, and still nobody believes them! I know this is Hisstank.com and not mobat.com or something like that, so maybe because we are Cobra themed we all need to be evil and negative, but guys don't be so quick to believe every negative rumor about price increases, availability, death of the line, etc. And don't be so quick not to believe people who have good news. Those two combine to make us look like a bunch of whiners, and really detract from the otherwise total awesomeness of this board. Remember that these are toys and they shouldn't be causing us so much negativity and stress. Mods, if this is off-topic, then move it. I still think it is on topic because it has to do with sightings and rumors, which is the purpose of this category, but so be it. |

I agree. The whole "Pics are it's not true" is getting pretty lame.

Your rant is useless without pictures.
Sorry. I had to do it. I agree BTW. Finding a new wave in stores is not hard to believe and I take them at their word. If someone said they found 20 cases of 82 Joes on the street, then I would have to see pics. |

ok here are my thoughts on it. I don't think it is so much that people here are pessimistic I think it is more down the lines that the angry/negative voices carry louder than the positive ones. As you can see outside of the web it is the same way. The angry mob is always louder than the peaceful demonstration. There are some people who look at things in a negative way but there are also some very positive views and thoughts here. Case in point, when people ask what is it about the tank that keeps people coming back the overwhelming answer is "the people".
Now to what you were saying, I think it is more a sign of the times than anything as to why people tend to believe the negative first. With the rising cost of living our hobby is starting to become a lot more costly. Plus people are still having a hard time finding figures to start with. It is easy to see things in a bad light right now. When somebody says that they have a sighting then it only stands to reason that conformation is wanted. Once that is given then rest assured there will be tankers hitting every retail within reasonable distance of their home. |

In a local found thread, his post will be lost after a page and he'll feel isolated. However, some people do in fact get lucky and find/get something early or an actual variant and get flamed hard. It's like when I'm telling someone about something I did in school back in the day, it sounds outlandish and I know I did it, why would I make up a story in person? Especially to a friend? It is the nature of the beast though that wants people to have the "pics or it didn't happen" mentality. Like the 2 per case of Rattlers I found the other day at target. I don't have a cell phone, nor do I carry a camera around with me. I knew it would either be taken with harsh criticism or positive ones. I didn't care, I was throwing out the info I found and posted, it's there for others to do what they want with it. |
