It's a work in progress...my dad and sisters are all in. I can shoot them a text with the specific items and stores and they'll go look for me in their areas. (My dad laughs and calls them Reconnaissance Missions...this is how I have my two Ren Troopers...my only wv 3 Joes.) My wife on the other hand rolls her eyes everytime its brought up. But, I've been slowly working on her and she's starting to see how much fun I have with it. She's beginning to understand the nostalgia aspect for me as well as the "hobby" in it. I'm proud of her. She "let" (let = didn't complain) when I bought myself the PTE towers and Jeep set from JC Penney for Christmas; but, also went behind my back and ordered a Sky Striker off of Amazon. (I noticed my brother-in-law eyeing the Sky Striker when he thought no one was looking...) Then on Wednesday night she stayed up reading while I spent 2.5 hours applying all of the stickers and assembling Ace's sweet ride! Last night I spent another hour and a half glueing boxes, styrofoam, and other discarded packaging materials together to form a Cliff/display piece for my Joes (the ones she knows about...). I use all of it to "decorate" my son's room (he's way too young to enjoy them just yet). Hopefully he'll appreciate them as much as I did/do. My hope is for him to be able to conduct platoon-sized operations before he's out of Junior High...

no. it is a big issue with my wife, but I keep all of my collection in my office.. so long as nothing ever spills over, it is ok, but occassionally she has a meltdown...
when she does I remind her of her hundreds spent monthly on clothing and shoes, of which my arguement is loose, but sometimes helps. usually these blow-outs result in a large thinning of my collection, which is often good as I only keep and display the things I really like, and let go of the things that are so-so. I've got a section of the basement dedicated to my hobbies. The wife decorates the rest of the house and she collects snowman and frog themed stuff (she knows how to decorate, never a frog and snowman on the same shelf like I would do). She also prefers me to have a hobby (aside from my jeep) that doesn't involve booze, drugs or other women. Seeing me in the basement displaying little plastic men puts her mind at ease knowing she doesn't have to worry about "what I'm doing". lol update: As she read the other replies on here she thinks I need to point out that she buys stuff for me too, and i've found her playing with them more than once. My wife is fine with it as long as toys don't eat into bill money (which only happened once and it was a terrible fight) but she is cool with what I do and how I go about it for the most part and supports it too often buying me new and interesting peices to suplement what I have. Half the cool oddball things I have ever found was because of her.
My mom is kind of wierded out buy it and is not sure how to take it, but she also is a very accepting person. But she has never supported it or given me anything for b-days and such. My daughters are in a similar stance. They sometimes think it's weird, but then my middle daughter started collecting DC (Primarly Superman and Batman related) stuffs. My youngest has started with Legos now but when she has guys come visit she dares them to make a thing of it LOL. |

I'm not sure "tolerate" is the right word for my family support of my hobbies. As they've always given me nothing but encouragement even when they disliked or disagreed with the hobbies. So I guess I'm lucky there. Of course I haven't had a girl or my own kids in my life yet.

my family for the most part think it's cool, my mom and dad even hunt for me when it's convenient. my inlaws think it's funny but, i over heard my father inlaw say " don't tell jordan i said this, but the joe room is pretty cool".

Me Ma, you mean wife right?
It drives my wife crazy too. I don't get it. And this is the one and only "thing" I have for myself. And it's just GI Joe toys, nothing else. She asked me once, "Can't you do something else besides collect GI Joes?" I said, "I could start collecting girlfriends." Well, that didn't go over very well. But I made my point. Same here, she loathes them and everytime something new arrives from UPS, FedEx or the Post Office, she blows a tampon!

My wife constantly buys me stuff and is excited when I find things.
If we ever have money issues it's always my fault instead of hers though. (she spends more than I do) She equates my one closet of toys to "hoarding" then as well. |
