The reason I ask this question is because scalping has become such a big phenomen now.
Me myself is not a scalper, but when ever I go to any store just to buy some GI joe the first words to come out of a cashiers mouth is you are going to put these on e-bay right. I tell them, no I'm not I'm just a collector. So do you guys think that when e-bay got big and when computers got cheaper and when people got faster internet connections did this paved the way for more scaplers. Toys are not the only victims to scalpers they will prey on anything. Look what happens whenever a new video game console is released such as the PS4 and the X-box 360. Most of the people who wait in line to purchase these things on day one are just there to put the thing up on e-bay anyways. But I do know that in America there is nothing wrong w/ making a profit but making a 100% - 200% profit is just being too greedy. Thats capitalism for sure. Supply and Demand. Yellow Stalkers $200.00+ and Snake-Eyes w/ Black Timber $100.00+ and even Flint (as lame as this figure is w/ those horrible Duke arms) is also starting to climb up in price. Oh and don't let them have it graded by AFA either if it is then double those prices. This 25th anni. line must be a sclapers dream come true. Who buys from these fools anyways? Most us who post in the HISS forums are probably smart enough to know that they can get the 25th ann. figures way cheaper than what the e-bay sellers sell them for. Plus we already have what most of them are selling anyways. Well this is my breakdown on who the scaplers e-bay customers personalities are: International Collectors - 70% The Impatient Collectors - 20% Collectors Who Don't Know There Joe (The Suckers) - 10% In my opinoin a profit breakdown should be like this: Lets say I buy a item at $6.00 and I want too profit from this item. I would then sell it at a price of half of which I bought it for. So half of $6.00 is $3.00 and then I would take the $3.00 and add it to the $6.00 which equals $9.00. So I would sell it for $9.00+ that would be my profit margin. But not in a scalpers case they will inflate prices sky high and then people get bid happy and cause these infalted prices. Now when e-bay becomes flooded w/ GI Joe auctions you would think that a scalper would have to make some adjustments to his prices right. Nope it doesn't stop them, they will not back down from anything and it doesn't matter how many auctions there are. So I thinks that if e-bay didn't exist a scalper would not be born. Or maybe we will always have scalpers but they will have to scalp locally and then maybe open up a shop in the flea market somewhere in town. |

"scalpers" have always existed wherever there is money to be made. Granted ebay makes it 100000000 times easyer for people to rip you off, but if it just vanished one day "scalpers" would find a new way to make money. The one thing i really like about ebay is that certain prices for things i want are significantly lower because they are always readily available. Though thats not good for people who collect to profit, i love it because i can build my collection of whatever for a fraction of the cost that i used to pay

Or maybe we will always have scalpers but they will have to scalp locally and then maybe open up a shop in the flea market somewhere in town. First paragraph: I get that a lot too, its just the nature of the beats Second paragraph: I dont blame scalper for the $1500 PS3 ebay prices. If i paid $400 for one and knew i could sell if for $1500 i would do the same thing Third paragraph: Think about it, if ebay was gone i can almost guarantee a yellow stalker would sell for atleast 3 times the price it is now. Supply and demand my friend, without the figures available whenever you want them, the price only climbs. Fourth Paragraph: Scalper will never go away regardless of ebay. Before ebay even came out, i would always hit up antique shops, comic shops, hole in the wall toy shops. You would find some amazing deals in there because noone would have a price to compare things to on ebay. I remember i used to get vintage starwars and joes for $1 a piece at a hole in the wall i used to go to. But now, if someone sees say a boba fett selling on ebay for $25, they arent going to sell there for any less than $25 as well. Last edited by HissCommander; 09-10-2008 at 10:55 AM.. |

Hey! I'm a scalper! It is a way of life for me. I need the extra money so I can afford to eat at McDonalds everyday, and to support my porn habbit. So leave me and my fellow scalpers alone!

people scalp many things. tickets to sporting events and concerts come to mind. and that was going on long before eBay existed. granted, it's all over eBay as well, but people will always find a way.
