While I somewhat agree with you, I have to wonder why a fully articulated GI Joe, Marvel, or Star Wars figure costs the same or less than a Green Lantern figure of the same size with only 6 points of articulation...Could this be why?

Its also easy for a company with factories in China to dispell stories like this. I said from the start that the report should be taken with a grain of salt because they have an interest in finding bad stuff. It creates news. Hasbro has an equally, if not stronger interest in dispelling the report, so I thusly take that with a grain of salt too. The truth is probably somewhere in between.

Yup. Twas awesome. There was som crazy talk in that thread, but some actually really good discussion. I was actually really disappointed that the thread had been deleted. Like there aren't a thousand other threads full of Hasbro bashing and conspiracy theories. Unless the Illuminati runs the tank, that is...

Yeah, I'd say that one must consider the source on both accounts [both the report linked and Hasbro's Counter] before passing judgment. Yes, people in China don't work under the same standards as those in the US, that's nothing new. But:
Quote:
Workers housed in filthy, over-crowded dorms, infested with rats and bed bugs. Workers report they cannot sleep at night from the bed bug bites.
Quote:
Workers describe factory food at "Pretty much like swine food."
Quote:
Workers allowed less than 9 minutes to assemble each Hasbro Transformer, for which they are paid 17 cents.
Quote:
"We are drenched in sweat," workers say. Factory temperatures soar to 104 degrees F in summer.
Quote:
During peak season, workers toil 12-hour shifts, seven days a week, while earning a take-home wage of just 92 cents an hour.
Quote:
Workers undergo three body-searches each day, are not permitted to talk or lift their heads to look around, and need permission to use the bathroom.
Quote:
Hasbro is open to the hiring of 14 and 15-year-olds on a "case-by-case basis."
Quote:
Workers in the spray paint department fear they are being exposed to dangerous solvents.
Quote:
There are no fire drills and some emergency exits are locked.
Quote:
During the slow season, hundreds of workers are fired under false charges so management does not have to pay their legal severance.
Quote:
Workers are cheated of paid sick leave and maternity leave.
Quote:
Workers describe their work as mindless, miserable, constantly monotonous, yet furious and exhausting.

At least nobody is killing themselves at this factory. Can't say the same about that Apple factory in China where they make all the iphones.

Seriously though its troubling but I do agree this has more to do with China and their labor laws than it dos with Hasbro who is not doing anything illegal and trying to save money. It ain't pleasant but it is business.

This is the sort of thing why people are screaming in the Occupy Wall Street protests.
American jobs are being outsourced to China, Mexico, and wherever else. Understand, even after the cost of shipping the goods back stateside, the price of producing these fine Joe items is STILL CHEAPER than what it would be if Hasbro just manufactured this things with American workers. What is worse? In China there really is no minimum wage. No social security like what he have in the US. No FICA. No health insurance. Nothing. Zilch. That is why American manufacturers LOVE cheap Chinese labor. Companies can continue to reap in windfall profits with the benefit of exploiting workers in 3rd world nations which make less than $5/day. This is pre industrial revolution wages people. In the US we have minimum wages. In China there is none. American companies are taking advantage of it. What is even more worse? The Red Chinese government profits substantially from this process. This trillion dollar trade deficit with China only spells one thing. Red China is using the money to buy reverse engineered stealth aircraft and strategic aircraft carriers. That's right! By doing business with our Red Communist adversary, we have succeeded in enriching the economy of these communists. They take the loot and use it to arm themselves. All in the name of cheap consumer products for Americans. Its all a joke. Mother forgive me.

I keep hearing about human rights abuses, but to me when they talk about being stuffed into small rat infested dorms it just sounds like living in China to me.
