The following is theory only. (based on my observations working in the TV entertainment industry. I have no direct involvement with hasbro media.)
Based on what I saw with Joe 2 (orginal production schedule vs revamped movie) I believe that whether they made Joe 2 was questionable for a while. Yes the movie made money. (substantally less than orginally exspected) The movie did not sell toys. (its true purpose) This is the reason Hasbro invested in Renagades. It was a re-branding of Joe to get away from the bad taste left by ROC. At this point Joe 2 may not have happened. Joe 2 did eventually get pushed because they got 1. a script they think can sell 2. a plan to develop the sequal as a good action movie while minimizing bad feelings about ROC. Despite Joe fans' cries for a reboot; It simply wasn't going to happen without waiting several more years. Joe 2 was going to have to be in the ROC movieverse. In the Nov/Dec 2011 time period was the last chance to put a season 2 into production in time to get it out for the Sept 2012 new cartoon shows. (That's assuming a very tight time line.) This was also the time when Joe 2 was in production. Hasbro (& other interested parties) watched Joe 2 very closely. They will know if it is good or a stinker long before we all will. Seems to me they are making a bet, if Joe 2 is good they will most likely continue with the movie-verse, If it is bad they have the option to continue Renagades, (However most likely in some slightly altered form. I could see a Renagades continuations with a heavy retalitation influence) This means we will not likely get a new toon in Sept. However it may be possible to get a Jan 2013 release if they are planning acordingly ^^^This. I agree totally, and yes, that would have to be a very tight schedule. I think it's more likely that they would have needed to get started in Sept/Oct, in order to have a new season ready for 2012, and I believe that Retaliation wrapped filming by Oct, and finished editing and post production by Nov, which is about when we got the trailer. |

I agree. Once the new movie does well, Hasbro will figure out a way to bring a Joe cartoon to tv again. But, they ended Renegades on the note they are no longer Renegades. So they can continue with the birth of the joe team, reboot entirely, or do a hybrid show with nods to the new movie. I vote for a show that shows the Joe team come together for the first time in to the story we're familiar with. And, all new toys.
