Tankers,
The distribution down here in Florida is pitiful and honestly, we get stuff weeks, sometimes months, after the rest of the country. It bites to see figure reviews, customs, dioramas using the newest figures and not being able to go get them. Based on many recent posts in the Florida Sightings thread, I can see that the weekly toy hunt grind is beginning to wear on some people, just like it is on me. It is swiftly losing it's allure. Conversely, some of my collector friends tell me "It's not the kill. It's the thrill of the chase!" I am not a hunter, but I can understand that logic. I hit 10 stores once a week (3 Wal-Marts, 2 Big K-Marts, 3 Targets, 2 Toys R Us's) and I hardly see GI Joes at all (except for that effing Artic Destro that nobody wants!). Yet, in most of these stores are rows and rows and rows of WWE figures, Transformers toys, Bakugan, even fricking Power Rangers for god's sake. I mean ROWS of them! In any toy aisle you visit, you can see tons of these toylines. Why can't Hasbro put out GI Joe like that? Imagine walking into a toy aisle and seeing 200 of the latest GI Joes on the pegs? Boxed vehicles stacked 20 high... It would be a dream! Will this ever be a reality again? Well, I recently caved and went to eBay to get a few Renegades figures. I paid approx. 33 dollars for 3 figures and they got here immediately. If I calculate the gas and time I spent looking for these figs already in the past week, it surpasses that, so I think this is the route I am going to start going. Do NOT get me wrong, I will still stop in here and there to check for new stuff, but I'm not gonna kill myself like I once did. What do you guys think?

my area sucks, like i mentioned many times over here, but my local tanker friend hits me up here and there an asks if i need anything when he finds em out by his work or where ever he goes, and my buddy uman in indiana does the same. uman always helps me out cause he knows i have a hard time getting things here.

I'm always surprised to hear that larger markets like Florida have more problems than us all the way up here in Maine. I really don't have much trouble finding Joes. *knocks on wood*
The later waves of POC were scarce as hell, but I can't really think of anything else I haven't been able to find. I have just recently started buying them online (like the upcoming Wave 4 case, along a couple extra Zombie Vipers), but that's just me being a little paranoid. I'll probably eventually find all those figures in stores. |

I wouldn't call toy hunting an annoyance. Well, it's annoying when you can't find anything for months. But as far as I'm concerned, toy hunting has become an addiction.

Hmmm... pay $2 more per figure by pre ordering or spend $20 in gas driving all over and finding nothing. Tough call!

It does depend on your area as far as finding stuff on the pegs. Sounds like your area has a lot of collectors and that's probably more the reason you don't see much. I'm pretty good about finding things in the store, and I just now found Wave 3 leftovers. Eventually, I'll find them all as I usually do. (except that pesky Capt. Fordo from Star Wars).
Sounds like going online is a good way to go in your particular situation. For me, I have quite a few stores to hunt all within short distance of my home and work, so I never have to go out of my way. If I did, I'd probably consider ordering online instead. I never liked the thrill of the hunt. I just want my toys that I like to collect. However, I do like the thrill of finding something at the lowest possible price. I mean, that's more money that I can put towards more toys or other stuff. If I could order them online for the same cost as buying them directly in the store, I'd never go hunting. I always try to take advantage of free shipping offers on HTS and other sites. BTW, if you tend to hit certain stores on the same day of the week, it might help if you mix up which days you go to each store. Also, the time of day may make a difference if you are able to change it up sometimes. |
