Speaking about a repeating pattern, someone started a second poll just like this! LOL

In a few years I bet retail won't even stock non movie tie in toys anymore, so the only places you will consistently get new toys is probably comic shops or specialty shops... I bet even TRU won't carry too much new toy stuff anymore.
I bet soon ordering online will be the only way to go... I wonder what toy scalpers will do with all the free time they will suddenly have. LOL.

Just wanting to address specifics of your post:

Based on many recent posts in the Florida Sightings thread, I can see that the weekly toy hunt grind is beginning to wear on some people, just like it is on me. It is swiftly losing it's allure.

Conversely, some of my collector friends tell me "It's not the kill. It's the thrill of the chase!" I am not a hunter, but I can understand that logic.

Imagine walking into a toy aisle and seeing 200 of the latest GI Joes on the pegs? Boxed vehicles stacked 20 high... It would be a dream! Will this ever be a reality again?

Well, I recently caved and went to eBay to get a few Renegades figures. I paid approx. 33 dollars for 3 figures and they got here immediately. If I calculate the gas and time I spent looking for these figs already in the past week, it surpasses that, so I think this is the route I am going to start going.

Do NOT get me wrong, I will still stop in here and there to check for new stuff, but I'm not gonna kill myself like I once did.
What do you guys think? Some suggestions. 1. If you ever try to notice, there are patterns for many stores of when they stock. ie generally speaking Wal-Marts either stock toys on Wed and Fri or on Tues and Thurs. Some have screamed BS to me on this, and yet I rarely have trouble with those hard to find items once I spot the patterns. I do get beat by some scalpers on occasion, but not so bad that it freaks me out. 2. Leave for work a bit early and hit that store close to work before you come in, there is a reason the scalpers camp out in the mornings and on certain mornings. Truth is Joe is low on thier radar but I notice I tend to find HTF items quicker. Granted if you are just searching Joes you should plan it when things start showing up too (I collect several lines so this is easier for me to do more regularly). 3. If your once a week excursions are on the weekend, may as well forget it. By the weekend the scalpers, the collectors, the parents and the kids have already had a shot, you're putting yourself last on the totem pole this way. You will find stuff occasionally, but a whole lot longer after it's been sent to the shelf. Sell throughs are hard to predict and stores won't overorder unless it's a movie line. Some stores only get one or two cases of a given wave, so competition is tough too. Those are the things that help me out, good luck. |
