1982. Had almost everything through about 85, then funds were down and my parents couldn't buy me everything. Never had a Terror Drome or Flagg :(
Fell out of collecting around the mid 90s for a while, then about 97 or so tried rebuilding my vintage collection (Mom sold all my original stuff at our garage sale). Had a house fire in 2001, lost everything I had. Began collecting in general again about 2005, and when the 25th line came out, went back to grabbing Joes full time again, including vintage stuff. |

I had some vintage 12" Joes in the mid to late 70s. Then in '82 (I was 11), I got hooked on the new stuff. Flash and the VAMP were my first (straight arm for both). I bought and mailed away for everything right off the bat. I made sure I was home every time the MASS device 5 part series was played on TV (we had no VCR then). Everything kept going strong after moving from Illinois to Florida in Jan of '85. Then things trickled down in '88 and '89 due to getting older and the toys lost the Army feel to them. Re-releases bugged me too because I had all of the first editions. I remember working at TRU in '89 and thinking the Night Boomer was 'stupid'. Should have bought one though. Who knew it would be worth so much? I did like the Night Striker a little because I never had a WHALE. Now that the 25th is out and looks VERY good, I have re-ignited the Joe collecting bug. I had recollected a couple of things a few years ago, but it's growing now. Bigger and BIGGER.
Nice thread. Tanks for the memories! yuk!

1982. It all started with these; Cobra Commander (SA), Cobra Soldier (SA), Destro, Gung-Ho, Torpedo, and a HISS TANK in '83.
That got the ball rolling. If I didn't have it, my best friend did. He had the Moray, I had the Whale. He had the Snow Cat, I had the Mauler. I had the Tomahawk, he had the Dragonfly, etc. We never had the same vehicles. 1986 was my best JOE year, I had all the vehicles & figures. |

Except for the Terror Drome, that was the only one I didn't have in 1986.

As my Screen Name suggests, I have been a collector since 1982!!
The first place I found G. I. Joe was in a small store that was somewhat popular here in the South. T.G.& Y...don't ask me what it means cuase I have no idea. I remember getting Snake-Eyes, Zap, and Grunt I think. |
