I had one of those mail away Joe parachute packs...and the one time it didn't open...Zartan fell hard...and his head broke off.
he had a glued head for close to 20 years...until i got back into collecting and traded for one. |

I regret this to this day, and I am a huge one on proper gun safety... you'll see why.
As a kid we really did have a lot. Mostly hand me downs, food stamps, well you get the idea. I only had a handful of joes I could afford to buy, Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow being among my favorite possessions. I never had a Flagg, or Sky Striker or anything like that but I did get in exchange for chores a used hydrofoil and Tomahawk from a neighbor. We lived in a mountainous wooded area with a small pond where I would spend hours playing. Well, these were my pride and joy for a couple years until I got the 'ol "when are you going to grow up?" speech from my new step dad. Well it wasn‘t long before, “Dad”, decided that there was to be no more toys. Ever. Time to grow up... so he got me a .22 rifle. (can you see where this is going?) He suggested it was time to clean house, or the toy box as it were. In short, he claimed the Tomahawk and it became… a clay pigeon. He had me throw it from a cliff so he could see if he could hit it… with a shotgun. Well he did, and there wasn’t much left. (Safety first right?) Well, then it was my turn. Down to the pond we went, armed with my new .22. (I’ve shot before on the farm but there I was taught firearm safety and respect and that they weren’t toys, well this didn’t apply to “Dad”.) The Hydrofoil was loaded up with a few of the Joes I had left, most notably my favorites. Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow. Well the “Hydro” was sent afloat on its final voyage. The jerk had me pick off the Joes first before he had me shoot the hell out of the boat. All hands were lost and the Hydrofoil never saw daylight again. I’m glad to say that that “man” is no longer a part of my family’s life. I enjoy guns but only in a respectable manner. Well, “Dad” I’m buying Joes again and I’m still not ready to grow up… fully. |

I was being babysat by a family up the street and somehow misplaced my original Spirit figure, for some reason it was my favorite figure. I stopped over at there house for like a month asking if they found it. never happened. I finally got the Slaughters Maruaders one, but was sad as a little kid becuase I could never find it.

Me growing up and telling my grandma she could give away my toys (Small joe army and MOTU collection). Well she actually listen to me that time and she did.

Akunin, what an asshole. That "man" sounds like the typical meathead trying to be hard. What a douche to make a kid destroy his favorite toys. You can be tough and still do what makes you happy. Little does that tool know, guns are also toys. Think of all the asswipes out there that collect guns (aka toys), that have huge gun collections. Don't feel bad some of us have "real dads" that treat us like step sons. It's even worse when it's your own father, just be glad he's not your "real dad"!

Winter 1987, we had a huge snow storm... I took the opportunity to take the Tomahawk and a small force out in it for some arctic conditions training. Well, after some time, my parents called me to come back inside. The Tomahawk with crew stayed outside overnight in the snow and sub-freezing temps.
Next morning, I go out to get it, dug it out of the snow and spun the main rotors.... ALL OF THEM snapped off and broke away from the center spindle! The plastic was brittle from the cold. Stupid me. I was very, very sad after that. Never got another one. |

I got a record player for xmas one year when I was little, he stole the needle so I couldn't play it. I do have redeeming factor though, when my friend and I got BBguns (in our teens) my step dad said we should go out to the woods and hunt each other. This was before paintball. Well, He was coming up behind me, I turned, fired, and shot him smack between the eyes. The BB was stuck in the skin of his nose and settled right above the nostril. I could never in a hundred years replicate that shot, but it played over and over in my head for many years to come. Oh, and when I was 9, he forced me to drink a pitcher of beer through a straw. He was an asshole. |
