This year, my wife's family (all adults, no kids yet) is going to do a Secret Santa style gift exchange.
We have each drawn the name of the one person for whom we need to buy a gift. Everybody is exchanging a short wish list with the whole group via email so that no one knows who is buying their gift until the family gather's at Christmas. By the way, no gift certificates are allowed and there is a $50 limit. For me, the list presents a problem. How would you explain to the whole group what you want? Would you be specific? How would you make it easy enough for a non-collector to by you a gift without a huge ordeal? I welcome your thoughts. Thanks.

Just tell them you want 1 BBTS Slaughter's Mauraders 7 pack OR 1 BBTS Drednoks 7 pack OR 5 30th Anny Techno Vipers which can be found at any local Target, Wal Mart, or online etailer. Oh wait..... that's what I want for Christmas...........

Nice that they had to complicate things by not allowing gift-cards.

Create an amazon wish list - there is a browser app where you can put any item from any site on your wish list.

I'm a 34 year old married father of two. Most of the family (and wife's family) don't really understand my hobbies. If they ask me what I want for Xmas - I'll usually point them toward a few book or movie titles and leave it at that. My wife will typically buy me something hobby-related and I'm good with that. Not everything in my life is hobby-related so I am able to find a few "normal" things to put on my list. It is hard for people not familiar with hobbyists to understand I think.
That said - my wife already bought me that giant AT-AT! The sad part is that I think she expects me to give my POTF2 version to the kids.... I'm not even gonna tell her that I still have a vintage one to boot! |

I never expect anything hobby related. I just ask for practical stuff like socks, or some food item.

Everyone I care about, knows my hobby and doesn't give me any grief about it. If my family were to do a secret santa type thing, my list would be replete with super specific (yet attainable) toys. With links and/or pics like someone else mentioned.
Good luck! |
