Well, I gotta say there's a lot of passion here when it comes to collecting and my perception has certainly changed with regards to how many people collect and how many aren't embarrassed about it and are fully open with their girlfriends, spouses, whatever. I posted this thread in hopes of hearing some funny stories, but partly because it does bother me that I'm dishonest with her, even though I'm open about everything else. I'm not afraid to tell people that I'm not religious, even though I've gotten plenty of shit for that, and I do stand up for things I believe in. Some guys would be embarrassed to tell their girlfriends they jerk off, and some girls actually think this is cheating believe it or not--I know, I dated one--but I don't hide these things. However, the Joe collecting strikes me differently for some reason. I guess because my parents always made me feel a little ashamed for buying them when I was 14; they weren't mean or abusive about it, but little comments like "aren't you old for that" were enough to get me to stop collecting. However, it's a slippery slope to say that this lie will beget more lies and that my relationship is built on deception. I just feel, perhaps wrongly, that it is a really dorky kid's hobby that I happen to really enjoy, though the thought of telling her embarrasses me. She would not break up with me but it would change her perception a bit; I think I'd definitely lose coolness points. I don't know...it's ironic and strange why I'm not open about it. Oh, well...I do appreciate the fact that everyone values honesty and openess here. I agree with a lot of the things that have been said thus far.

I am married and the secret is long out. Now she jokingly tells me she gets half of them if we ever divorce. LOL!

I showed my GF my stash in the closet today now that she's in the process of moving in... All she could say was "Wow, oh my God."

My wife knew what she was getting into; she knew before she even started dating me.
Now she's collecting the reissued My Little Ponies, she is no longer allowed to belittle my collecting habits.

I'm lucky. My wife used to go toy hunting with me when we were first dating at 2 in the morning back in '98 hitting every 24 hour store we could find. She's the best.
