Been down this road a time ot two, it never works out.
Last girl, was into all sorts of unusual stuff: hardcore dancing, domination, fetishes, etc but when I attempted to explain how I was into G.I. Joe, she acted like I was weird. It went downhill from there, damn shame, that girl was rad. You should "test" her elike show her a youtube video of like a guy with joes or something and be like what do you think of this? If she thinks it's cool, than tell her! if not, keep it hidden! |

It's not like you have a drug lab in your room and you are manufacturing crack to sell to the neighborhood kids. If she isn't into collecting figs/comics/etc, that's fine. But if she has a problem with something you really enjoy then she really has a problem with you.
Women are always trying to shape men into what they want them to be, rather than who they are. Be yourself and if she doesn't like that, time to find a new woman.

This is one of the things I tell any girl about myself when first meeting her. If someone has an issue with it, then they're not worth my time. Collecting and being a fan of GI Joe is as much a part of me as anything else. I think with age you gain a little perspective on things. I used to "hide" my collection, especially when I got back into Joes in 01 in, when I was in college. It wasn't until my girlfriend at the time and some of her sorority sisters saw it and commented how cool it was and how they remembered the toys from brothers / childhood friends while growing up. I learned then that I can do without people who have issues with collecting. There are plenty of great people who have no issue with it at all.
If you know she will have a problem with your collection, you guys are probably going to butt heads on a lot more than that.

As much as our girlfriends/wives are "into" and "okay" with our collections and obsessions....some people just don't understand. There is nothing "weird" or "wrong" with that. There have been threads here before asking this very same question. If he feels his girl just wouldn't get the whole collecting thing it's not our place to say dump her or "come out of the closet". I've accepted who I am (a complete toy junkie) and to be honest I still get the occassional weird look from family members or friends that can't understand why a grown man plays with and collects toys.
Before i got married I've had many girlfriends in the past that I've been less then open with about the toys in my closet or basement. If I got a good thing going on with my girl (and I think you know what I'm talkin' about) and if I had any inkling she might not be "down" with my toy obsession......I think I'd keep my mouth shut. |

I think that now that it is acceptable for grown men to play video games and the fact the the movie 40 year old virgin did so well, that figure collecting has lost the stigma that it used to carry. More and more people are accepting this for older people to continue to do outside of their youth. My grandfather has been collecting toy tractors his entire life, so in my family toys have always been accepted but I had friends in highschool that gave me flak for it.

It's nothing to be ashamed of. My girlfriend usually gives me static about it, but it's mostly playful teasing. She always rags about me chatting with my "boyfriends" when I'm on HISStank. But whenever she's out shopping, she'll call to see if I don't have something she found at the store. I scored all the vehicle packs except the HISS this way. She's also the one that put the Post-it notes on my Joes in this thread:
http://www.hisstank.com/forum/g-i-jo...ay-gi-joe.html Either way, regardless of what it may be, a relationship should never start (or later develop) secrets. If she can't accept you the way you are, then why would you want her? There are much larger reasons for a woman to leave a guy (infidelity, STDs, bestiality, etc.), and vice versa. Toy collecting is way down on the ladder (unless it's an issue with spending money, which could raise it up a bit on the same ladder). Don't fake the funk. There are plenty of fish in the sea that will at least abide our pasttime, if not encourage it. My girlfriend collects Pee-wee's Playhouse toys and memorabilia. And for Valentine's Day, we did our shopping at a used toy store on Carson Street. She got more Pee-wee figures, and I got an entire set of the Food Fighters and a Night Ops DTC Humvee. I suspect she was more enthusiastic about the Food Fighters than I was... |

i knew my wife was the one when she showed me her entire toybiz x-men figure collection all complete! there were like a 100 all mosc! it helped that she had an older brother. I think girls are cool with guys collecting toys as long as you don't pull a "dark helmet" and have your girl walk in on you while commenting how big someone's helmet is!
