How do you get stickers to stay on those little round areas? Like the side missiles of a trouble bubble or the top roll bar of the A.W.E Striker where it says (watch your head)? I remove and place my stickers with tweezers and utility knife so my oily hands never touch the back of the stickers. And yet on these hard to stick area's they always start peeling off. This only happens on small round surfaces like the roll bars or small missiles.
Wanted to know if anyone had any solutions to this problem. I assume I can't be the only guy this is happening too. I don't want to glue them down, I figure that wouldn't work well plus if it ages they will never come off clean for a restoration. Any suggestions? Thanks! |

I am sure the problem occurs because the plastic-paper the printing is on reverts to its original form which is flat. The only things I can think of off the top of my head are: to heat the sticker once it is applied so the plastic-paper will re-form to the shape it has when applied to the missile/roll-bar/etc. Just be careful not to mess up the missile/roll-bar/etc. Or, you could try adding some superglue to the sticker which will hold very strongly but may discolor the vehicle and/or the sticker.
Just some 2ยข

Those missiles and roll bars are always made of the softer, greasier plastics and so I never even bother trying to get them to stick and end up leaving them off.
If it's something like the Trouble Bubble missiles, in which case I want them on as they make it look better, I cut off a clear strip of the backing film, wrap it over the sticker and around the whole circumference of the missile. It then holds the original sticker down.

I used my hands and I haven't had any problems with stickers falling off. I push on the sticker with pressure for like 15 seconds though

the AWE Striker roll cage and the handle bar thing on the back of the Armadillo give me the most problems. I used scotch tape to make it go all around and attach back onto itself and they still pop off lol.

These particular hard spots and for the most part all my stickers for all my vehicles. I place back and fourth pressure for 15 or so seconds hoping that the warm of the friction will also release glue agents that will redry on to the surface for a better grip. I also do this for the stickers that are already placed by Hasbro. Also, VERY important that you minimize contact to the adhesive side. If you do touch it with your finder I consider you would loose 50% of the adhisive and therefore the sticker will eventually peel off. I also use a Exacto knife to place my stickers with. It helps me place the stickers at any angle for better control.

I use the little clear rubberbands on my flight pods. They keep a firm hold, they work like a vice. In a few months the stickers will be reprogrammed!
For my AWE striker I have round (not flat) twist ties wrapped tightly around the roll bar stickers. This method works just like the rubberbands. Pressing the stickers by hand with body heat first, then wrapping the stickers is the way to go. Then your vehicles will be 100% original and unmodified. Don't use bare wire twist ties, use the clear & black rubber coated ones. These won't damage the thin fragile stickers. Last edited by sweeper; 08-25-2008 at 03:54 AM.. |
