Here in Iceland, we both got Action Force carded figures and G.I. Joe carded figures, being an island midway between Europe and America and having a strong influence from the american naval base in Keflavik, we got the best from both worlds. Those were the times, me and my friends, we both played at home and in the cliffs that our hometown is built on. G.I. Joe and Cobra were for us an international armed forces. One of my favorite figures was Taurus, the Turkish renegade

Action Force was what i grew up with. GI Joe was just the US name for AF until 1991.
what hacked me off was when they changed Wet Suit from Canadian to British for the Battle Corps release and made characters the comics showed as Americans (Roadblock and Rock'n'Roll for two) as British on the filecards. weirder still was finding out as a grown up that Leatherneck was German on his filecard! (i never had him as a kid) |

I think most people in the UK consider Gi Joe as 1980's stuff that isnt around anymore. The action figure culture has died here, Joes are just one of many toy lines long forgotten. For example our local toysrus chains stock tons of Dr.Who, Harry Potter and Ben10, plus other bland depressing items. Action figure collecting, especially joes is a sub sub culture, never seeing the light of day.

yeah, the only toys carrying the AF name these days are green army men and shitty kid roleplay items you get in pound shops.

no, i mean you had one version of a figure - like Wet Suit V1 or Roadblock V2 that says one thing (Canadian and American respectively) and then a later version - Wet Suit V4 and Roadblock V4 which suddenly makes both British.
and then characters like Rock'N'Roll, Leatherneck or Hawk in the MUK comics were American, but the filecards make them British, West German and British respectively. I mean, Leatherneck just makes no sense whatsoever when he's wearing a USMC uniform! |
