great tutorial. I need to do that to a ton of my stuff as the stickers for many items (HQ, battle platform, Moray) have fallen off or were bought beat to hell.

thats cool man. I restored a terror drome today. Took me a few hours but it looks good as new. Restored a cobra HQ i got a few weeks ago, also good as new. I have done a lot of clean up jobs on OG vehicles. I think half the fun of collecting these things is restoring new life into them

very cool post and informative, thank you and good job. I also love to restore old vehicles. do you know of any cure for the yellowing of plastic? I was able to clear up a lot of yellowing on a crusader shuttle with a Mr Clean magic eraser. any tips for other vehicles? this method worked well on the crusader because of the mat porous surface but would probably damage the glossy finish of other vehicles.

The ONLY thing I have found for removing the yellowing is a lot of Time and different grits of sand paper and then plastic polish. If you are new to restoring ANYTHING plastic, I would recommend that you start with something that you don't mind if it gets trashed and just play around with it. I was able to restore a Robotec Fire Valkery (a.k.a. Jet Fire) doing the same thing to it. I don't have any pics of it as I sold it when I finished it, but I buy most of my supplies like sanding disc, paper, polishing compounds, etc from Eastwood Inc. (www. eastwood.com). They sell a lot of tools and supplies for restoring real cars but I found a lot of it can be used in this and other hobbies as well. Hope this helps out and if anyone else can explain it a little better or has another process for doing, Please let us know as I myself am always looking for different ways to restore my older collectibles. Cool. That was virtually the exact same process I use. Glad to know I'm doing something right. I've never ordered decals from "Ruben" though. Only from the 334th and I know those aren't of the finest quality. I'm waiting for Cobrastickers inventory to get as vast as their Reprolabels brand. Then I'll order from them. Ironic, I have a cruddy Mobat along with dozens of other vehicles I need to restore. Thanks for the article.

Thanks for the kind words guys.
HISSCOMMANDER: I did a Terrordrome a few weeks ago, and it looks fantastic as well. fade2gon: Yellowing is one thing I've never tried to fix. I just try to buy my white items in pristine condition and keep them out of the sun. Cobra Soldier: I am telling you, just try Ruben's decals once and you will never go back. Best around and an enormous selection! |
