Ahh yes. $4.88. I remember those days like they were only last year :P I just bought a couple of figures at Wal-Mart this morning and they were like almost $7.00. That's quite a price hike in a year's time.

I don't like the sloppy repainted anythings with this stuff, but I remember the first GI JOEs from 1982:
For example, Grunt, Stalker, Snake-Eyes, and Hawk actually had the exact same bodies, just painted differently. The heads were different in this case. But several other figures from the first original line up had shared heads, for example. Grunt/Zap/Grand-Slam all had the same head, Flash/Hawk/Short-Fuze/Steeler all had the same head. The unique heads were obviously Scarlett, Stalker and Snake-Eyes. Rock-N-Roll and Breaker had the same head, and as the others, with different hair colors. Most figures had unique accessories and colors, and this is why it was tolerable. Also the card art was bloody amazing!! Which is what drew me right in. It was not until Gung-Ho! Airborne! Doc! and Snow-Job! (from that commercial if you remember that) were released that we saw completely original molds for each figure. BTW I am an equal fan and collector of the Bad Guys too, most of which seemed to have original molds each. So this use of the same parts thing is not new. It can be good, if done properly, as in with the inclusion of unique accessories to round out a previously used body. But naturally, as a more mature child (he, he) I want the stuff that I spend money on to be the best it can be. If it comes off as cheap or too rehashed, I won't buy it. Just my opinion |

Well, I think its annoying that I can't find many of the figures that I want right now in the stores, more than anything else.
But yes, Hasbro's doing a bit of "milking" with the way they are packaging and releasing some of these. With that said, I don't really have a problem with it yet. But, I'm not a completionist, and there hasn't been any figure that I wanted released only in a 5 pack, or 3 pack. As long as they keep releasing 25th anniversary stuff, I'm sure I'll keep buying it. |

I sometimes get annoyed with all the re-paints and multipacks, but I still go to TRU & Target regularly to look for Joes. They more they make, the more I'll buy. It's a simple as that |

The tools used to create these figures are expensive. Hasbro needs some return on that investment. Repaints and reuse of parts keep the line profitable...a profitable line means a bigger line.

You are not alone.
-Michael Jackson. But yeah, like Irid70 says, it's a necessary evil. And even if it weren't, you can't hate a corporation for trying to make a profit. It's kinda what they do. Well, you can hate the corporation for that, but it seems kinda silly. That being said, I f----ng HATE that some figures are only in multipacks (DVD LJ. Desert Bludd. Quick Kick) - I just dont hate big H for it.

Pick and choose what you want. I've had to buy the 3-packs and comic packs just to get the one figure I wanted, but then I'd sell the ones I didn't want (there is somebody always willing to take them off your hands) and in some cases it was like getting them for free. I do hate the store exclusives that are later released in mass. I feel kind of jipped on the Night Spectre (?)....only to have Hasbro release the proper Sharc w/Deep Six later down the road. Why couldn't Grand Slam been the jet pack figure instead of Duke? So yeah, I agree they may be miliking it a bit. But you know what, Hasbro did it in the 80's too. Tiger Force, Python Patrol, Night Force and Slaughter Marauders and so on.............

It will be like the Star Wars line. they keep releasing barely tweaked updates of older figures wave after wave until we have over 1000 different figures of about 75 different characters with maybe one or two perfect un-improvable versions. They will do this ad nauseum as long as we keep buying. Unfortunately it is a necessary evil in todays toy lines. repaints are cheaper to produce and have quicker turnaround than a newly produced figure. Buy what you like hasbro will get the message if the crappy repaints sit at retail.

Forgive the cliche, but Hasbro are out to make money from us. If giving us one desirable figure in a set full of repaints is economical for them then that's the way the wind will blow. I've accepted that's how modern Joe collecting will be and have 'made my peace' with it.
