Went to Toys R Us Yesterday, and found that the remnants of RoC have been shifted to the cheap aisle, and replaced with Characters HM Armed Forces Figures.
I am totally confused. Britain, and British children in particular, love war and soldiers. It's part of our national heritage. The military is still one of the few things we actually do well. GI Joe is apparently not a big seller in the UK... despite the fact that the biggest sections in most supermarkets and toy shops are filled with these; HMAF Roleplay showroom - YouTube And these; And these! C'mon Hasbro UK - Action Man and GI Joe will sell. You just need to advertise it right. ...I'll get off my soapbox now...

Joes on Peg in the UK - not discounted - retailed at around £8 (That's approx $12.62...) the HM Armed Forces figs are around £10 (nearly $16) for a 10 inch figure with material clothes and pretty awesomely detailed kit. I could quite happily troop build those. To support the line, they've also released these; Because British kids want to buy soldiers with their £2 pocket money. Now... I'm a GI Joe fan... I have been since I was little... when we had 12 inch Action Man, 3 3/4 inch Action Force from Palitoy, and then the 'Action Force' packaged GI Joe figures from 1985 onwards. Back when we had the Action Force cartoon, Comic, Adverts on the TV... I don't want to be looking at other products and thinking 'Why isn't GI Joe merchandised like that?' 'Character' as a company didn't even exist 5 years ago. How can they be kicking Hasbro's retail-ass in the country that developed the 'Kung-Fu Grip', 'realistic hair' and 'Eagle Eyes'? If UK Joe had adverts like this it would sell. That's all I'm saying.

I wonder if the reason HM Armed Forces sell is that:
a) they are British, or at least not all American (and yes I know ROC was international, but that leads me onto my second point) b) they look like current soldiers, and are not wearing weird futuristic clothing. With Action Force/GI Joe we had a UK comic and UK/International filecards which gave interesting and relevant background to the characters. ROC was a rubbish film (IMHO) but even worse it was not even advertised, which isn't going to help matters. I do hope that Hasbro decide to release figures for the new film in the UK and more importantly I hope they look like soldiers and that they actually bother to advertise. Dare I say they might even have more luck with the parents nowadays by rebranding in the UK as Action Force. |

I think 25th on the shelves would have sold.
I think PoC on the shelves would have sold. I think RoC would have sold if we actually saw any advertising... and the figures weren't in such drab costumes with the massive missile launchers. You would have thought that Hasbro would push for Renegades to have been released over here. That would have made sense to me. I think Joe should stay as Joe in the UK, but I really would like to see Hasbro UK re-address Action Force or Action Man, since they're such - to my mind - an intrinsic part of British Childhood culture.

I would love to see Joes on the shelf in the UK. Having said that I'm loving scooping up the remains of RoC for pennys.

Those look pretty rad. When I think of modern European Gi Joe I think Action Man, he was kind of a James Bond meets Lt. Falcon kinda guy.
I remember seeing him all over france when I was there studying abroad or two.

We have the same situation in Poland, first wave of ROC has been released months after the movie premiere. This and the lack of advertisements were the main reasons why the sales failed. Hopefully, Hasbro Poland will learn the lesson and perform better with the Retaliation line. The are the bright sides as well, we have a Renegates with Polish dubbing available on the cable and ROC will be in prime time tomorrow on nationwide channel.

Love those HMAF figures, but they're a little too large for me to collect - I'm hoping they eventually spin off into a smaller scale, similar to Joes. That's how ACTION FORCE started here after all.

We had the similar problems with Spytroops and Valor Vs Venom. We recieved almost no troop builders in our allocated waves, mostly repaints and garishly coloured ones at that.
Zip-lines and parachutes. That's where it's at. And Berets.
