Man, I know how you feel. Right now my job situation's looking really grim and we've had some expensive repairs over the summer. First, my German car needed all new brakes and other work that cost almost $1000 (I even got estimates at 2 places before I had the work done). Then, right after that the water pipe leading into our house broke and poured water into the basement. I haven't yet sold any of my collection, but it may come down to that.
Life and money suck sometimes. At least you and your girlfriend were safe. Everything else is secondary.

after telling my women im going to sell my joe collection she said she would not let me sell it Don't worry though, I think you're going to find out this thing is not as bad as you think it's going to be. Not to mention the fact that your old lady sounds like she's cool about your Joes, so I would not worry about having to move them yet either. Thank God for that, the first thing mine starts eye balling every time we come up short is my Camaro and my guns. :( (she doesn't know about my Joes )

Ok, here's what I found out today for you -
part should be in the $80-100 range depending on which brand / aftermarket or Ford Factory part you go with. If going Aftermarket, "Moog" is one of the better steering and suspension manufactures if they make this part (which more than likely they do) and should be a good quality part for the $$. If all else fails go with the Ford original factory part, that will more than likely have to come from a dealer and will cost more $$ (closer to the $100 end) but it will also be the real deal and be just like the original. The ball joint is also NOT available separately from the control arm, so you are going to have to buy it as one assembly. This really doesn't effect the price b/c you can't get it any other way, so it is what it is. Kind of like buying a MOC wv 1 SE, he is going to come with Timber no matter what if he is MOC. Make sense? Labor becomes the problem. :( My labor time guide called "All Data" which is somewhat of an industry standard, not a GM or Ford only labor guide, what anyone in pretty much any shop in the country would use for non-factory warranty labor times, shows labor to replace this ball joint/control arm assembly at around 2.5 hours or so of labor. Here's the rub, where you live I don't know what the going labor rate for non-warranty work is (what we call CP or "customer pay" work) but here in FL it is $105 and hour at my shop. Now I also AM in a more expensive part of the country for labor than some others, so it may not be this high where you are at. Regardless, find out what the going labor rate is at a couple of places around you and you'll get a pretty good idea of what it is going to cost you to put this thing in. So for example, here at $105 and hour and 2.5 hours of labor, you'd be at a little over $260 alone just to put the part in. That does NOT include the part it's self (another $80-100). :( Don't forget what I said about the alignment also, you are GOING to need it one way or another b/c you are replacing a major steering and suspension part. If someone tells you, no you do not necessarily need it, GO SOME WHERE ELSE! This will not cause the car to blow up or anything stupid like that, but if the alignment is off (which I can pretty much tell you it WILL be and WILL need to be reset between wear, the failure and the new part) it can cause accelerated or premature tire wear would COULD eventually lead to tire failure and cause you to get into an accident or loose control of the vehicle. This is NOT something to skip! Only thing left we don't know at this point is if there is any other damage you either have not told me about or don't know about yet. If there is not (let's hope so) then a ROUGH region specific estimate is going to be in the $430 range. :( I say that b/c remember the part is between $85-100 (let's go with $85), labor HERE would be about $260 (again, maybe less, maybe more by you) and an alignment here is in the $90 range (again that may be more or less by you). Given those numbers ($85, $260 and $90) is how I come to the $430 est total. I don't know if there is tax or shop supplies to add in also in your area, so this could effect it to. LMK what kind of estimate you get and how it is broken down and I can possibly give you better idea if what you are looking at is fair or not. The other thing to is you do not necessarily need to go to the dealer either (I would not) but I would either go with a known brand name store with a good reputation (like a Goodyear dealer or national repair chain of some type) or a good known local place that has a good reputation. This is NOT a Wal Mart or Sears kind of repair! Try to go with someone who specializes in tires and alignment, as they are going to be more familiar with steering and suspension repairs. PM me if you want and I will give you my cell # and you can call me once you get an estimate and we call talk about it if you want. It may be faster than PM-ing or e-mail too. LMK - Eric
