With the new G.I. Joe movie looming next summer, I think it is time we get our own version of Risk, the board game of global domination! Other licences like Star Wars, LOTR, Transformers and Halo have gotten the "Risk" treatment - why not our beloved Joe franchise?
Considering they have already done a G.I. Joe Monopoly Edition, Risk would be a no-brainer. I have come up with at least four factions: -G.I. Joe (green) - represented by a green shirt/Grunt (x1 infantry) and the MOBAT (x5 infantry) -Cobra (blue) - repesented by a blue shirt trooper (x1 infantry) and the HISS (x5 infantry) -Iron Grenadiers (black) - represented by an IG (x1 infantry) and a DEMON tank (x5 infantry) -Oktober Guard (red) - represented by Red Star (x1 infantry) and a Russian BTR (x5 infantry) Here are some other ideas: -game map would include "Cobra Island" in the middle of the Gulf of Mexico or other locales from the comic or cartoon (i.e. Sierra Gordo) -capitals or headquarters: The Pit or G.I. Joe HQ, the Silent Castle, Destro's Castle, etc. -special weapons such as the Weather Dominator (adds +1 on dice rolls) or the M.A.S.S. device (allows you to transport troops anywhere on the globe) What do y'all think?

It would be kind of neat but GI Joe doesn't really lend itself to taking over nations and holding territory aboard. They're a defense unit, and Risk is more about imperialism.

nobody buys the toys, that hardly bodes well for Hasbro co-branding other products with it.
retailers already got burned on G.I. Joe movie product, I don't get the feeling they will be very enthusiastic about co-branded product for the sequel. |

That reminds me of the cover to one of the Marvel G.I. Joe comics, showing Destro playing with the chess pieces of the Baroness, Cobra Commander, Scarlett and the Joes.

I say why not. It will add a new dimension to being bored to death playing Risk.

I think a more apt use of the brand would be an Axis and Allies type game that's set up with Cobra having already taken over half the world. You could still incorporate your ideas for the factions but rather the GI Joe team being conquers they'd be liberators.

Yeah, all the different units A&A has would be cool, including the air force and navy. It would be cool to have a Flagg with mini-Skystrikers for your navy and air. Even some of the A&A battle themed games like D-Day and Battle of the Bulge would be cool...imagine an "Assualt on Cobra Island" game?

Sadly, board games are going the way of the dinosaur and I might not see this dream realized, with kids nowadays playing on consoles and online multiplayer. Howevery, a G.I. Joe themed Call of Duty or Battlefield game would be a great way to get this generation to buy Joe product.
